Default Friendly Safety Announcement - Eye Protection

Alright; played airsoft tonight. Had a great time and would love to play again with this group of guys.

What this thread is here for: The promotion of eye protection in any game where people are shooting at each other with replica firearms.

Reason: Tonight, while I was playing (Night game; low vis) I was running my ASGI M4 and about to check a corner when my friend who is wielding a Thompson SMG at face level turns the same exact corner. We both fired shots, panicking, while his rounds hit home ... on my face. I was shot at least three other times on the rest of my body, but my face hit was bad enough to stop all gameplay. The skin on my chin had been busted and was bleeding pretty badly, so we decided to have a break and clean the wound. While it was not that bad of a wound, the round had hit about 4-5 inches from my eyes. Don't worry, I was wearing eye protection already, but if I had not and my friend were aiming higher, I would have lost an eye today.

tl;dr: Don't EVER play any game like Airsoft or Paintball without eye protection; turning a corner can turn a good game into a bad rest of your life with only one eye.

If anyone would like me to post pics of any sort, i'll hold on that. Still worrying about it opening up again.

EDIT: Changed from "toy" firearms to Replica firearms. Guns are not toys, my friends. My bad.

The last time some friends and I messed about with airsoft's, I ended up with a gash (mmMMMmmm) on my nose right between the lenses of my eye protectors.

Also, don't run with scissors guys.

definately wear eye protection guys, losing any degree of eyesight just isn't worth it

though I feel for the poor lad who got shot in the balls last time I went.

Yeah.
the only time I played airsoft, I got a gash on my chin from some douche who decided it would be fun to knock me to the ground, which knocked off my face protection and then shot me point blank to the face.... Still have the scar. But it's covered with enough chin hair dirt to not be noticeable.

Always wear eye protection, life with one eye isn't fun, look at pirates.

Used to play in my friend's backyard with 3 other friends, at night, using cheap pistols with TONS of hop-up, and no eye protection. One of my friends got hit in the face probably twice every time we played. Nonetheless, I think full face-masks are far more useful than glasses.

On another note, if a friend tells you that putting Gold Bond down there feels nice, well...Bengay is not a valid substitute. Or is it the other way around? Can't remember..

Contrary to popular belief, pirates eye patches had nothing to do with any kind of eye damage.

He's carrying on my proud tradition.

OT: Yes, using eye protection when handling firearms -- both real and soft -- is very important. While dust and hot gasses are a more common risk with a live weapon, there is always the risk of a kaboom.

Eyes are good.
