I have a problem like this as well, I click on the pr installer, get asked to allow it by windows and then a black box flashes up for about 1/4 of a second and nothing happens after that. I've tryed turning off UAC but It's not done anything for it. Planning on leaving pr on download tonight and hopefully it'll be just a problem with my files rather than something more annoying.

Any ideas to the contary are very welcome however

Lots of love

I'm on Win7 64bit RC build 7100, installed and plays with no problems, in fact better then ever. I didn't need to use compatibility modes, i did have UAC off and i didn't have BF2 installed in my program files. I believe Vista/Win7 treats files in the default program files folder slightly differently, security feature i think. So i avoid it for games.

But i can verify Win7 & PR like each other

Not sure what's causing your mentioned problems.

First Windows 7 bug discovered - vnunet.com

In the English version of Windows 7 Release Candidate (build 7100) 32-bit Ultimate, the folder that is created as the root folder of the system drive (%SystemDrive%) is missing entries in its security descriptor," says the posting."One effect of this problem is that standard users such as non-administrators cannot perform all operations to subfolders that are created directly under the root. Therefore, applications that reference folders under the root may not install successfully or may not uninstall successfully. Additionally, operations or applications that reference these folders may fail.
"For example, if a folder is created under the root of the system drive from an elevated command prompt, this folder will not correctly inherit permissions from the root of the drive. Therefore, some specific operations, such as deleting the folder, will fail when they are performed from a non-elevated command prompt. Additionally, the following error message appears when the operation fails: Access is denied.
"Furthermore, the missing security descriptor entries protect non-admin file operations directly under the root."

which win7 you got 32 or 64 bit ?

I just quoted it from the site

I think what it means is this:

if you did not install the windows update (that fixes the issue) right away (before installing anything else) you're best move is to Re-install the win7 and
install that update before installing anything else (including BF2/PR)

Saying oh god that will take ages, pretty much sums up how that idea makes me feel. I will attempt the new file download and if that doens't work then I'll go ahead and reinstall win7. Darn it all and I only just finished transfering over the old data.

Oh and there isn't any chance that the windows 7 download itself would have been updated is there because my download of windows 7 is only a week old?

Lots of love
