Exclamation Ping issue-Please save me!

It happens on bf2 and PR, whenever I join a server, no matter which server I join, high ping or low, I have a ping between 300-800 and rubber band everywhere. I've done a test or two, I'm told the results show that my internet speed is perfectly fine, I've downloaded and set up the bf2 patch fix that increases memory or whatever, but I am still having the issue.

I really want to play PR and this is the only thing standing in my way. I've just installed the game from a fresh copy of BF2 that I just today bought from the store, so I don't think reinstalling will resolve anything. Please help.

Speed (bandwidth) and Latency (ping) are 2 different things.
It's common to have high download speed and high latency (ping) for Satellite
users or certain types of WIFI or "mobile internet" like Rogers that uses a cell
phone network.

Do a tweak test here:

Tweaking for speed -

and speed test here:

Speed Test -

and post the result or URL to your result

make sure your Punkbuster is up to date:
Google pbsetup.exe and download.

When asking for help,
please remember to post your:
systems specks,
network setup
And a brief history before and after problem started.
Please describe when your CTD or problem hits and
what you have already tried.

Remember it is recommended that you restart your system after you install/uninstall programs to ensure all installed components, files and registry entries are correctly installed or removed.
So it is key you restart after using pbsvc uninstall.

Some routers with 'packet inspection' turned on can also trigger a disconnect when game data or voip traffic triggers a false "ping flood"attack and the router shuts down needed ports to protect your network.
So try turning packet inspection off to see if that helps.
If you have a busy network you can also get dropped if your packets are consistently getting delayed due to high traffic.( your ping jumps way up from time to time)
If your running Xp you can tune up your internet connection with TCP Optimizer to maximize throughput.
check out speed guides web site
click here to use their TCP/IP Analyzer
results will show if you can improve throughput.

Having a router like D-links gamers lounge, that can prioritize traffic( they call it GameFuel), can make a night and day difference.
This GameFuel improves your online gaming experience by ensuring that your game traffic is prioritized over other network traffic, such as FTP or Web. This is of course much more helpful on networks with more than one user, but if you like to download bit torret or other large files in the background while gaming you'll be glad you have one that can prioritize or 'shape' traffic.

good luck

I came to the conclusion my router was causing the issue, I was plugged into the internet through my router, but now that I unplugged the router and directly connected to my modem, I have almost no ping and everything is really smooth. I suppose we can call this fixed.

Yea routers have a lot of "settings" and almost all have a firewall that
would make you "unpingable"from the outside.
You can update the firmware on the router which might help or disable
block WAN ping requests within the router setup.Usually accessible
via WEB interface.

Anyway I made this thread just for that:
