Default Extreme Survival Test in USA?

Hey guys! In the army one of my squadies talked about this extreme survival training somewhere in the USA, in a swamp or something. It was 90 days long and was like the toughest survival training you can go through (or one of them anyway). Does anyone know of it? Would really like to see pictures/movies of it, if there is anything out there on the net.

Is this in the military?

If so, to my knowledge Ranger School has a swamp phase. Not sure about elsewhere. I'm sure Eddie or Kenny can give a better answer.

I don't think it was some US specific training but more like something any soldier from around the world could do. I heard a Swedish officer tried it out but failed. And he seemed to be a pretty tough guy with years in the Foreign Legion as well.

EDIT: If you made it you would get some fancy medal and all.

It definitely sounds like you're talking about the Ranger course. From what I understand, there are international candidates / students in just about every class that attempts. If you graduate you are awarded and may wear the Ranger tab, and are considered "Ranger qualified."

This is not to be confused with the Ranger Regiment, however. Officers and NCOs of the 75th Ranger Regiment are required to be graduates of this course, and they and all junior enlisted soldiers must pass a selection and indoctrination program to receive a billet in the regiment. Those who succeed become "Scroll" Rangers; the scroll referring to the distinctive unit insignia of the Ranger Regiment. In order to remain in the regiment, all junior enlisted soldiers must pass the Ranger course; naturally, the infantrymen and other combat arms MOSs receive priority and less probationary time before heading to the course.

Just about everyone I have listened to who graduated from it referred to it as "Suck School." They didn't seem to regret it, though.

There are tons of videos, documentaries and photos out there of it, complete with shots of the creepy Georgia wildlife (and the animals, too ), nasty injuries, etc.

Forum member Rico11b is a Ranger school graduate and could tell you about it firsthand.

Had a guy in our communications squadron (Air Force) complete Ranger training. I always wondered how and why he was able to do the training.

Yeah, that sounds about it. You'd get the Ranger tab. So all rangers have been out in the wild for 90 days? Or is it even 90 days?

Yup. I believe that incident prompted a few changes such as more food allowed.
