Default Conventional Trident SBMs and Hypersonic Cruise Missiles

All part of the current US strategy of increasingly fast response times. A 6000 MPH cruise missile is certainly an improvement over the 550 MPH tomahawks.

6,000 really had my thinking.

But the real number is 3,600:

Quote:
One candidate: the X-51 hypersonic cruise missile, which is designed to hit Mach 5 — roughly 3600 mph. The goal, according to the U.S. Strategic Command's deputy commander Lt. Gen. C. Robert Kehler, is "to strike virtually anywhere on the face of the Earth within 60 minutes."
Personally, I just think scram/ramjets are cool, so therefore this must be used.

Me thinks he make a typo because 3600 MPH is 5790 KMPH (close enough)

Mad-Mike - Good photo's but why do u have 2 threads that are the same?
[R-CON]ReadMenace - Are you referring to the obvious double-post or the less obvious, high-resolution military photographs thread?

The bloke inside'll be fine, just so long as the acceleration up to Mach 5 isn't too rapid

As SqnLdr said, the human body can survive traveling at an infinitely fast speed, it's just how fast you get up to speed that causes all the problems.

As for the tridents, global. As for the cruise missiles, it wasn't very far, a few hundred miles if I remember, but I'd have to check again.

Tridents - 6000 nautical miles (6905 miles)
X51 - 600 nautical miles (690 miles)

It should be noted that the X51 has a significantly shorter range than the Tomahawk cruise missile (1550 miles).

Such is life.
