Default Helicopters Sound Volumes Reduced Too Low.

Several Helicopters have had their sound volumes reduced way too significantly.

I understand there are game play balancing issues, but when a Chinook can fly within 30M of you and be completely silent in an audio environment with no other game play audio, something is wrong.

Changelog:

"Sounds
Fixed several vehicles sound issues"

I'm willing to bet you are talking about basrah, that is the only map with this issue currently due to an oversight in how we have 2 view distances for that map

Are you saying it would require two different Chinook sound files for each layer? Is that possible or is it not worth the effort.

Yes I am talking about Basrah. Very happy to know you already know about the situation.

no, the way its done is that the view distance is used to calculate the sound radii, which are compiled into sounddistance.con files for each individual map. Its an effort to decrease sound bugs.

So the sound radius of something in a map with 500m VD is larger than one with 250m VD.

However, Basrah has 2 VDs, and unfortunately there was a snafu in coordination between mapping and coding sections of the team, as the mapper set the layers up and the coders do the sounddistance.con which controls the sound radii; so teh sounddistances.con was done using the shorter view distance even on the layer with a longer VD.

Its fixed by including a second sounddistances.con, and then adding that file to the list of files to be loaded in the init_32.con, which loads everything for the 32 layer and sets a longer VD. (basically just loads a new sky.con to make the fog start later), pretty easy really, we just made a booboo.

kind of off topic, but some choppers can be heard from too far away, for example the mi-8, (as the chopper i hear almost every day) you can only hear it when its pretty close to you, unlike the huey which you can hear it really close.

There is only one unforgivable lie That is the lie that says, This is the end, you are the conqueror, you have achieved it and now all that remains is to build walls higher and shelter behind them. Now, the lie says, the world is safe.? The Great Khan.

40k is deep like that.
