Default CTD a few seconds after launching game

Finally convinced my friend to play PR, but he can't get it to run. I am aware people are reporting similar issues, but I thought I would create a new thread, for the record.

Seems to be related to graphic settings, but I don't know what else to try.

I have tried:
  • Reinstalling
  • Trying different resolutions (only options in launcher are between 3k-5k)
  • Launching in windowed mode
  • Launching with admins rights
  • Overriding minimum resolution (3k) to 1920x1080 via video.con -> Error: resolution not supported by monitor

Error message in windowed mode:

Quote:
Debug assertion failed!
Module: RendDX9
Text: Unknown DynamicOption value 800x600
Anyone knows what I could try to prevent my friend going back to fucking LOL?

Ye, i have the same issue since several versions. I didn't play PR since 2016, but when I recently wanted to come back i faced the same problem. It has something to do with the graphics drivers I think. Cause I even tried running it on my 2nd old screen at 1080p@60hz and had the same issue.

Tried different graphics settings. Had the problem on my Z170 and 6700k and after upgrade and windows reinstall to Z370 and 8700k it was still there. However, when I had my 1070 it worked fine. Only since I have the 1080 Ti the issue came up it seems.

FFS that was it, how did i not think of that. I always used my old profiles folder, obviously something collided with my changed hardware config.

Same issue here after the v1.5.3.1 update. After the intro plays, I get the loading icon and then a CTD. I've deleted my profiles folder with no luck.

Run PR in windowed mode and check error message. It most likely is this

Bumping this.

Neither deleting profiles or correcting Gamespy URL helped. What else could we try? I'm completely clueless here.

He needs to mess with the settings in the launcher until this stops happening. Make sure his profile isn't read-only and that launcher is run as admin.

"Gamespy URL" is no longer relevant, we hacked around it.

Thanks, Alon.

I will fiddle around and hope for the best.
