torrent is where you download a small part of a file and then share it (so the system only work with lots of other people downloading and sharing their own little part of the file)

Raniak : "Warning: May crash if fired upon."

You need to know from where and what your downloading, and you need to use a torrent client that there are too many to list (firefox actually has a extension for it).

Depending on your connection, seeders speed large files can be downloaded quickly.

Torrents can contain viruses if you don't know what you're doing usually keygens and pron have viruses but you can trust the ones coming from PR.

Basically torrents are basically a piece of information that you download which tells the torrent downloader such as utorrent or azuerueus where to connect, what to download and connects to other peers that are sharing it. At least that's what I think a torrent file does.

Torrents are basically a system where everyone lets people download a small piece of a file from them. The more people on, the faster everyone's download goes.

Person A is on a network, and has 100% of a file. This person is a seeder.
Person B connects to the network, starts downloading from person A.
Person C connects to the network when person B is at 50%. Person C downloads part from person A, and part from person B at the same time.
Person D connects while A=100, B=75, C=25. D will download from all three.
Person B reaches 100%. Since person B is a douchebag, he will now disconnect from the torrent.
Person C reaches 100%. Since he is cool, he will stay around for a while and let people download off of him.

It keeps going.

Oh Jesus, don't scare the kid...

First things first:
1. Download a torrent client (the programme that lets you download files using the BitTorrent protocol): ĀµTorrent - The Lightweight and Efficient BitTorrent Client utorrent is a tiny and very very good client.

2. When you "download a torrent" you do the following: you actually download (in your browser) a very small file with a "*.torrent" file ending. If you have utorrent or some other client installed, you just double click the torrent file and start downloading the actual files you are after (games, videos, applications, whatever).

3. There are search engines just for torrent files, such as isoHunt - the BitTorrent and P2P search engine
Unless you specifically look for illegal copies of games, applications, or porn, you don't really need to worry about possible malware like computer virii or trojan horses.
Be clever about what you download (i.e. no "Microsoftz Windoze Vista CRACKED" etc.)

4. There is no inherent legal danger in using the BitTorrent protocol to download (mostly large) files: there are plenty of completely legal uses such as quick distribution of free software (e.g. Linux builds, game mods like PR).

5. Read up on it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_(protocol)
BitTorrent works like this:
- Somebody starts offering data by creating a "*.torrent" file for that data and letting others download that little torrent file. They become the first file "seeder": when somebody opens that torrent file, the seeder starts uploading the data linked to the torrent file, either from their own computer or another server.
- When somebody opens a torrent file and starts downloading from the seeder, their BitTorrent clients immediately start sharing whatever parts of the data they have already downloaded with all other people currently downloading. This the major difference between BitTorrent and other protocols like Kazaa et al: you don't have to complete a download in order to start sharing with other downloaders. Because every torrent downloader receives different parts of the original data at different times, effectively all torrent downloaders are downloading from each other in addition to downloading the entirety of the original data from the seeder. This is why BitTorrent downloads can be so incredibly fast.

3. Every torrent downloader whose download has been completed becomes a seeder. It is advisable to keep the torrent active (i.e. not immediately delete it after finishing the download) for a while after it completes so that others can download from you and all other seeders and torrent users.

That's it in a nutshell. It may sound a bit complicated because of the crappy way I am explaining it, but it's actually really easy to understand once you understand the "everbody sharing all the time" part.

--> GO DOWNLOAD utorrent and then use the torrent files provided by the PR developers to download the mod quickly!

Any file you download on the internet can have viruses, so that's really not something that should be mentioned in regards to torrent, it's probably why some laymen don't trust them.

Basic rule of thumb for the internet, only download files from reputable sources if you want to avoid viruses.
