I don't understand some people's skepticism. If they just wanted to tell that 1.6 is coming eventually, what would that be for? Don't we already know that? If that was the case they could have done it months ago. Reality is, if they went so far as to make this announcement, regardless of today's date, is because it's coming very soon.

Maybe it isn't coming within 7 days, maybe it is. PR 1.5 was also announced without a release date besides "soon", and it came in less than a week after the announcement.
