If devs want this to happen, and let there even be a remote chance of this happening, wounded and dead players must be able to write in chat.
It is hard to revive someone who doesn't talk/has issues communicating on mumble in some situations, it is close to impossible with players with no mic.

I sometimes try during low peak times to have no mics just to show them around, but the second they die, we lose all ability to speak which makes it pretty futile.

Yeah I never saw the practical value of not mixing dead and alive chat. Spamming is regulated by the admins anyway.

I really don't think this is needed, especially since we want to encourage people to use their mic.

There should in fact be more penalties for getting killed, like when you kill a civi.

A while ago they implemented a long bleed out time + longer spawn time to encourage people to call medic more. It worked from my experiences, and was awesome, but people were pissed off because getting killed actually was a bad thing, annoying to the player, not just die/respawn.

How is this related though? The chat is really not primarily used to communicate instead of mic. Most servers and squad leaders don't even tolerate people without mic.

It won't really hinder using mics as the primary comms method but it will enable you to ask someone to open their squad when you join the server for example.

Maybe not always just for admins, it would be better to just make that admin can turn all chat off/on and when it's off then it would be just for admins.
