Default Smoke & Zoom lag

Smoke Lag:

I get a significant drop in FPS when I look at smoke, especially when I walk through it. The more smoke, the more my FPS dies.

In the centre of a big puff of smoke my FPS can even get as little as 15.

Zoom Lag:

The greater the zoom, the more the FPS drops.

Looking at smoke through binoculars = death by framerate (literally)

Specs:

- Vista 64-bit SP 1
- 4GB DDR2 RAM
- NVIDIA 8600 GT 512MB
- P5Q motherboard
- Intel Core2 Duo E7300 @ 2.66Ghz

BF2 Settings:

- All on high
- No AA (took it off thinking it would fix the problems, it didn't)

I get a steady 40+ FPS at all times when not zooming or looking at smoke.

I've tried turning 'Effects' down to 'low', but saw no noticable performance boost while seeing smoke/zooming.

Any help/suggestions is appreciated,
Thanks,
Ryder

Setting 'Textures' to 'medium' definitely improves my overall framerate slightly, but smoke still has just as bad as an effect on my framerate, as does zoom.

I found that if I zoom at something like a tree with many branches, it will impact my framerate a lot worse than say, a vehicle or a wall (has much less edges)

Im not sure about Nvidia, but try going to your driver settings and looking for an AA setting and turn it off/application setting. Try turning all other things to that too.

Zooming in a smoke grenade lags a lot for me too. But simply zooming or simply being in smoke isnt that bad.
