Ye, but the Harrier had turbofan engines and it didn't have that issue

Although a quick google looks like it does indeed have this issue too: V-22 Osprey, stealth jumpjet 'need refrigerated landing pads' ? The Register

Grass looks ok because he landed with only rotor engines on, I believe they have turbofan engines separately and they are only on during take-off and when its moving fast forward?

And seriously this came up now after... how long has it been in use?

Why are they moving towards the dual bladed choppers like the Osprey?

From my understanding the blachkhawk is made for carrying squads of troops.

I'm sure mangeface (if he sees this thread) will be able to answer all our osprey questions.

I take it you mean why are they moving towards tilt-rotors instead of normal fixed vertical rotors? Main advantages being the increased range, speed and altitude they can fly at in comparison to normal helicopters, with still being able to land vertically, other than needing a slightly larger LZ than normal helis.

This Medium Lift tilt-rotor is designed to do the exact same roles as the UH-60, only faster, further and on the whole, better, other than when it comes to landing in small spaces, but even then the normal UH-60 has to have its troops fastrope

Cool design no doubt but this is flawed tech.

Future of helicopters lies with jet engines and dual rotors - which enables speed, manouverability and 360 no scope choppa style.

The whole jetcopter design like that in Osprey is flawed because it uses too much fuel, reacts slow and is hard to maintain and operate. Didn't US Airforce cancel the whole Osprey successor project?

Successor to UH60 may be NH90 and alike - https://yandex.ru/images/search?text=nh90
Or one of these - https://yandex.ru/images/search?text...e%20helicopter

Jetcopters may look cool indeed (they do have awesome design, Osprey is like a whale or something) but they're outdated. Try sneaking with that thing or making a quick drop-off and fly away specop style thing with Valor lol.

BH is 6 million 300kmh for 14 guys
Chinook 24 million 300kmh for 34
Osprey is 70 million 500kmh for 24

Great bit of kit but you pay in load and cash that higher top speed and range.
