Need advice on 4k videocard

hello, im in search of a good video card to match my new 4K TV that i game on. Ive heard on the forums that to be "future proof" you should buy the Nvidia 1070 series.

And ive seen on a recent twitch stream that BF1 and a 1070 SC, that he was getting 100+ fps on that game. And my question to you is should I spend the extra money and get a 1080 to be sure that I can run the new 4K games in the next 5 years. Or would the 1070 be a better option.

keep in mind im not that crazy about getting the most Ultra settings on the new games however I do want good graphics. So should I go with the 1070 or do you think I should buy the 1080

No GPU available now will run new games at good framerates at 4k for the next 5 years. Also, TVs are usually terrible for gaming because of the massive input lag they suffer from. There's a good reason why 4k monitors are so much more expensive than 4k TVs.

I play on a 4k monitor with a GTX 1070. I can play Arma 3, Dirt Rally and Assetto Corsa just fine @60fps with Ultra preset and AA off, so 4k is definitely possible to achieve with a 1070.

Games like witcher 3 are also playable if you can live with 30fps. I play it on 30fps with vsync and framerate limiter. Thats not perfect but better than 30-50fps without sync. It becomes a stuttery mess then.

The new Doom is also playable at over 60fps if you lower resolution scale to ~85% and increase the sharpening a bit. In fact the sharpening filter in Doom is excellent so it still looks good.

I would either go for a 1070 or for the 1080ti. The 1080 is IMHO not worth it anymore with the release of the 1080ti unless you want to buy used. Then you can maybe score a good deal.

FWIW, you need an 80inch screen to make use of such resolution in a domestic sitting i,e in a living room at typical watching distance and this rule applies to TVs. Not sure if this applies to PC sitting aswell but keep in mind its just a numbers game marketing uses to sell stuff. There comes a point where the extra resolution becomes negligable to the naked eye at desk distance, the extra invisible will only tax your card more, especially when you play newer more graphically intensive games.

Just my advice.

Currently, for PR you don't need to spend more than 200USD for a mini-ITX mobo + processor (with integrated graphics) that can run PR smoothly, if you build wisely. This figure excludes case and PSU though.

7400 pts. in 3DMark06 is OK for max settings but I would aim for double that.
