Default Flare gun!

I think a flare gun would be a great addition to the specialist kit on the night layer. It would be used to light up the ground and the surrounding terrain.

I works great in FH2 and it would be a great way to start infantry fights/ambushs and light stuff for CAS squads

No, I tried to find some, it's in the night map with Italians versus Brits, where brits have to destroy planes and objectives called Operation Hyacinth.

Not sure if the BF2 engine can really handle that kind of dynamic lighting but if it can, awesome

But instead of a "flare gun", think an illumination shot from mortars would be more realistic

It can, as proved in FH2, it works great

Yeah I heard illumn rounds were vastly used during the conflict. But the thing is that with flare guns you would not have to rely on a mortar squad most of the time. Would also give the specialist kit a use, because you don't really need ropes on this map

If you can find a source to suggest flare guns where/are used for this purpose, then I might consider it. Only use I see for a flare gun might be a pilot for CASEVAC? Flares don't generally illuminate the surrounding area...

And having to rely on mortars for an illumination shot to me doesn't sound like a bad thing?

Well I had read this article here that gave me the idea in a part :

Falklands War hero explains why he entered the church after being awarded the Military Cross - Telegraph

Quote:
“To me, it was the obvious thing to do because I thought, 'We are going to die if we stay here’. How I didn’t get shot is the remarkable thing. I could see the muzzle flashes from the Argentine weapons and they could see me because there was a lot of light from flares and I was the only person standing up. But they just couldn’t get me.”

Battle of Mount Tumbledown - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
For four or five hours, three platoons of Argentinian riflemen, machine gunners, and mortar men pinned the British down. To help identify the bunkers, the Guardsmen fired flares into the summit. The Guardsmen traded 66 mm rockets and 84 mm anti-tank rounds with the Argentinians, protected in their rock bunkers. The Argentinians refused to budge and the Scots Guards could hear some of the Argentinians shouting obscene phrases in English and even singing as they fought.

Battle of Mount Harriet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
The battle for Mount Harriet began on the evening of 11 June with a blistering naval bombardment that killed two Argentines and wounded twenty-five.[8]John Witheroe, one of the British war correspondents, later recalled the softening up fire:

We were involved with one night attack on Mount Harriet, when the Welsh Guards were coming up as a back-up. This involved marching for several hours on a very dark night, through a minefield. Sporadic shellfire slowed our progress tremendously. Eventually we made the base of Mount Harriet, which was coming under incredible fire from a frigate off shore. The whole mountain seemed to erupt in flame. It seemed impossible that anybody could survive an attack like that. This went on for well over an hour, shell after shell whistling over our heads and hitting the mountain. Eventually this was lifted and the Marines went in. To our amazement, there seemed to be an incredible amount of fighting going on. There was a lot of tracer fire. The whole night was being lit up by flares, which cast a dead, unrealistic, pall over the whole scene.
Mortars :

Battle of Two Sisters - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
With the help of a light-intensifying night scope, they could see sentries moving about. Suddenly, an Argentine machine-gun opened fire and the Marines launched a couple of flares from their mortar, firing back with their own machine-guns and rifles.
