It's easy enough to swap out the statics between the different layers, we have been done that a few times over the years.

The biggest issue is the lightmaps, mainly with how the static or ship, casts its shadow on the terrain/water under where it is placed. If you're swapping out statics your swapping out are close enough and it's not going to cause any gameplay issues then you can perhaps get away with a slight shadow difference on the terrain/sea, but it will look really odd at the very least if the statics are very diffrent or you are adding a totally new object, casting no shadow, or you are removing an object, leaving its shadow with nothing casting it.
I've yet to see a real soultion to this issue, although it might be problem to generate two of the same terrain Patch and have them swapped out between layers but yet to see anyone achive this.

Then there is also the issue of the object lightmaps but that isn't too much of a problem and can be well optimized with clevel Lightmap Atlas packing, with making sure all the objects that are removed are on their own LM Atlas, and again all the new objects are also on their own LM Atlas, which would need to be done manually.

If lightmaps are controlled by
Code:
terrain.lightmapBaseName
, my solution is able to decide which one gets set.

But its pretty annoying for the mappers to create different lightmaps

You might as well clone the entire map then replace the carrier, it'll make managing lightmaps easier.

Leave it out of the main staticobjects.con and set up a custom one same as fields to load on a alternative init.con

So, effectively it is possible to replace USS Essex whit British Illustrious, French Mistral and Chinese Type 075 whiteout bigger issues, as they all share same base and have different superstructures? Only Russian carrier is going to make bigger issue because there will be needed new lightmap, if I get it right?

You can load it directly from gameplayobjects.con

prta is known for his lack of "authority" on cheaters, your server your rules if you want to close an eye on him do so ~ A guy (who was proven to be a cheater next day) right after reporting another cheater

Do a complete revamp of flag layouts along with different factions (That actually make sense, Why would the US be fighting the UK as someone suggested?)
