Night maps have been requested forever in PR, and now that they are here people have realised that they are not worth it. They were neat during BF2:Special Forces, due to the neat equipment and NVGs, but NVGs do not exist in PR.
The evening maps are fine for the flare effects and gun flashes, but full on night maps, such as Goose Green Inf, physically hurt people. |

What is exactly the problem? Maps are usually set in a process of voting, so if people truly don't want the night maps, then they won't get any, that simple. Thus, removing them doesn't have any sense.

Theoretically, thermals can be used as an alternative to BF2 Special Forces's shader effect, though it would still need to take up a weapon slot.
For example, key 9 (Parachute key) would need to be the NVG which looks to not be an issue. The XPACK/Special Forces Expansion's NVG would also need to be rewritten to point to the thermal guiIndexes. Nightvision Goggles would need to be checked to make sure they won't clip through the model. But yes, it's possible. They can be loaded with the _night faction variant. I'll try to work on it as a test, see if it's possible. |

Night maps are whoever-turns-gamma-up-more-wins. I also don't like them.

The maps bring something new to the game so I am always for that, but the way night is simulated in this engine is horrific. Vietnam maps at night are by far the worst experience in this game. You either camp a bush or get wasted from someone else camping in a bush, maneuvering is punished beyond the initial deployment. I can see the fun in night layers but it's just soured by how far gameplay departs from the standard maps.
