Default Foliage draw distance

Is there any way to increase this? Steel Thunder has a great amount of grass but it's sort of ruined by the ability to see the enemy as it's not rendered at range.

Why does this not affect trees? Is it due to the fact they have LoD levels and the grass doesn't?

there are 2 types. Undergrouth and Overgrouth. Trees are considers as overgrouth. Grass as undergrouth. Its possibal to turn up the draw distance on them its not hard, but it means, LOTS OF LAG! which then means maps impossibal to paly. Overgroth as its much bigger has a longer draw distance.

it looks like hte BF2 engine is extremely limited...
you can either have a barren map, or a nice map, but with tons of lag...

at this time, it seems very limited

Is this lag from the netcode, or from people with average machines?

Right above the Materials folder on the left, there should be a thing called General, click that and bring it up/down.

The performance prob on steel_thunder is, i think, the "OvergrowthCollision.con".
This file is 20 (!) times bigger as from the biggest vanilla maps.

Your computers must calculate 20 times more collisions.
.. thats a lot.

Dude! Good observation!!!

I did a whole bunch of stuff to try and improve the performance on this map.... I never noticed this... if I removed all the overgrowth collision entrries for "nc_leafybush01" would it improve performance?

This is the object:

There are hundreds of collision entries for those and I can't see them really being a collidable object.

??

Cheers!
