For UV mapping, I'd suggest to do your smoothing groups first, create your smoothing groups where there is a hard edge, and you can unwrap based on smoothing groups. It helps speed things up, also...

Well lightmapping is pretty simple in UE4. UE4 does a pretty good job of creating lightmap uvs when you import the fbxs. Very rarely you need to create custom lightmap uvs. The hard part is tweaking...

Yeah, wouldn't really be nippicky on the player models, just about everything is WIP and alot are placeholders to begin with.

It's not the complexity of the program, but rather being able to use the tools that it provides you to make complex geometry is the tricky part.

Sounds like they're using Coherent UI which uses HTML 5 instead of flash based scale form or the intergrated Slate for UE4.
