When that bug occurs, you can get rid of it by restarting the explorer.exe process in Process manager. Still very annoying, but at least you can get your screen clear without restart.

yes, delete the 3 fixings, also collapse the front face on the grenade, a vertex will do just as fine there.

The difference in scale is really noticable, and thats just your basic texture down. Every detail you add will make it even more noticable...

I suggest you redo the UVs, and do it properly.

I wouldnt recommend that as
a) Normal map could not work too well with that, but one can test bake and decide if its a issue
b) Not too good idea if you want any text on the grenade, like this:
