The refs pretty much stole this from the U.S.

Are the same refs from the Lakers-Celtics game last night reffing this one?

Got to agree you was robbed there, Fantastic match to watch apart from a crap decision by the ref, he looked like a rabbit in the headlights every time he had to make a decision to be honest.

Feel sorry for the slovenian player at the end, that was a broken leg, you could see it in the replay :(

Great game though :)

The USA players were being bearhugged by Slovenians and they still got the goal taken away.

The sportscasters on ESPN (and apparently, in South Africa) seem to think this guy's big game FIFA career is essentially over.

for reference : Will Brinson - US Disallowed Goal Video - TwitVid

No foul, no offside, Edu waltzes his way past all the defenders (one in which is performing the f'ing heimlich maneuver on Bradley :|) and scores a cracker of a goal......

No. We get one point for a tie and now have to hope that Algeria wins.

No i dont think so.

I was so angry with the ref, i just wished i had a super sniper so i could snipe that f****** face off.

Football brings out the worst in me. I dont think i've sworn so much in 60 seconds, i even used "battyboy" .. aint used that since school

Re: 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa

Algeria - England

Round 1

Interesting match - Algeria - England, lots of offensive play!

Seems Algeria is more on the offensive than England is - for the moment at least.

According to the Danish sport commentators, the Algerian coach yesterday, brought the entire Algerian team together and showed them a movie about the Algerian liberation war against France, basically telling his team, that this match today, they would have to fight for their country.

A bit over the top in my opinion, but thats just me being a boring Scandinavian i guess.

Pause comments

0 - 0 so far

There is no doubt in my mind, that Algeria is doing over the top until now. They play much better than I expected.

The other side of that expectation, is of course England, who showed only a few times, what a dangours team they actually are?

Personally I think England has a better team than Algeria.

So. Well, questions.

What is the English strategy for this match?

Has the English coach read the cards correctly? (cause his team is very strong as I view it)

Is the English play - somehow - planned to be as defensive as possible while being as offensive as possible - at the same time?

Any thoughts?

Note: although the referee factor deployed it self in round 1, I dont think its impact has been big enough, to say it has impacted the round as a whole.

Round 2

England seems to get the upperhand now.

reason: Algeria, when you check their play out, seem to begin loosing their cohesion...more and more their players go for them self --- thus opportunism begin to deploy it self. And Algeria has a football-history of lack of teamplay and team-dicipline.

I could be wrong right now, wont be the frst time i ahve been so, but thats what i see at the moment.

Looks like Algeria is getting the cohesion back again. That window of opportunity - England has - is closing in now.

Conclusion

Result is 0-0.

England, whom everybody, including my self, expected much more from, has not lived up to its reputation.

From a football point of view that is of course sad.

Algeria, whom according to the Danish sports commentators, doesn't even have professional football yet (can anyone confirm that?), did much better than anyone expected, including my self.

Who knows? Maybe the Algerian coach decided to do right, when showing his players that film?

Maybe England faces a reform of some sort in their football?

Interesting match however, lots of offensive play, lots of chances...world cup...you gotta love it.

Go ALGERIA!!!

This is the only time in my life I've watched soccer. First ever game I've watched was the US-England game.
Second game I have ever watched was this morning's game against Slovenia.

Algeria with more possession.... English defense in shambles...(with the exception of David James because he's a legend)

Irish panelists at half time ftw, one just said (when asked about Heski) : "I have a ton of respect for the man, but he just can't play"

WelshManDan 2010-06-18 19:25

Re: 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa

Okay a few things.

1: ENGLAND! What are you doing? You need to get Heskey to Australia and leave him there, and get Joe Cole in, he deserves playtime. David James is acting useless with his terrible goalkeeping, he needs to step it up or will end up like Robert Green.

2: Adrian Chiles, what? This guy knows nothing about football. Literally nothing. Its like hes just there because he supports England and makes a Joke every now and again. (if your in the rest of the world you probably have no idea who I am talking about :L)

3: England, the world is watching this performance, every football player in South Africa is watching and seeing how god awful you are playing. I certainly dont want England to lift the cup but for the sake of Britain they NEED to get into the Semi/Quarter Finals.

Embarrassment is an emotional state experienced upon having a socially or professionally unacceptable act or condition witnessed by or revealed to others. Usually some amount of loss of honour or dignity is involved.

The same as every England supporter feels watching this shite on TV right now i would imagine :(

When we played Algeria 3 weeks ago, it was 3-0 by this stage....

C'mon, England.....get some redemption. A bit of a Gerard scud missile would go down quite well.

Trololo @ England.

Algeria's been playing with hustle for the last 87 minutes. England played maybe five minutes of hustle. Algeria wants it more, so good for them.

So close to a goal right there. Damn.
