ESPN says that the ref from the US-Slovenia soccer game may be axed for the rest of the World Cup.

Serves him right, too. I was reading around on some websites where they were saying that he comes from an anti-American family who claims that early ancestors of his were taken as slaves back in the 17/1800s.

We'd be leading in our group if it weren't for him.

Also he really doesn't know or speak English so when the players complained to him, he didn't really understand and just ignored them. That's probably the biggest flaw in international sporting events, there needs to be referees and other officials that can speak the langauage of one of the teams on the field. If the ref was fluent in English the U.S. probably would have won the game.

Actually even if the ref understood the language their explanation wouldnt matter...its his job to ignore the complaints of the players. (the FIFA rulebook says so)

Yeah, I however think that there should be a check on the ref, IE, he should have to explain his actions, either directly, or through FIFA. There is no reason why this should happen.

The only thing that I can see resembling this, is the case of the umpire who royally fucked up the perfect game for that one pitcher. The difference is, that umpire ended up being very sorry, and cried. I felt bad for him, as he truly was one of the best blue's in the game, and I respect the fact that he was willing to call the game the way he saw it.

This Ref however, is a disgrace to FIFA and to soccer. I am more pissed off at the fact that he doesn't have to explain himself ever.

Eddie nailed it. That umpire felt like shit, and he admitted within an hour that he just blew the biggest call of his life. The pitcher was tremendously good-hearted about it, and what started as a really lame story became an awesome display of sportsmanship.

The FIFA referee, on the other hand, just ignored the players and continues to ignore everyone. What an ass.

Also, did anyone else notice that he gave a guy a yellow card for an intentional handball after it hit him in the face and then grazed his hand? What a moron.
