They're not heroes, this kind of attention would be undeserved, even for the winners.

You don't get it, the 600.000 people in Amsterdam did. (and probably more in the rest of the nation) It's not about whether they won the cup or not, they won a lot of matches and entertained almost a whole nation by getting that far. But you don't get that. I find it rather unthankful if these people managed to entertain so much, yet you don't give them a warm welcome home? And for the people who watched it, you could see that in the beginning they didn't liked it, but in the end on the stage they were smiling and partying, it cheered them up and that is something they certainly could use.

The internet allows a lot of lies as in, I'm black and have a lot of guns at my home. Both lies, by typing Dutch I at least give something to indicate that I am really Dutch.

You could as well be an Englishman or a German who learned Dutch or used Google translator.

Comparing a TV-show with football... This team was representing our nation on the most important football competition in the world. If they would have won, the whole nation would have won (just as they say now Spain won the world cup), they are second in the world (vice-champions with a nice word) and they achieved a lot.

I am not sure what your definition of 'every time' is, but the last time the national team got a welcome like that was 22 years ago, in 1988.

They are also sportsmen, who want to win. They came really close to the world cup, and the sad mood ruled among the men. I don't see why they shouldn't get a party for getting that far and that close to the world cup.

But hey, whatever, if you don't like that, you just don't. I am just happy they did got fun out of it and appreciated it. With that I have said enough about it.

This is the part I'm having problems wrapping my head around. To me it just seems like living vicariously through others.
I don't recognize any representation for myself so I can't view it this way. My view is that if I'm not personally playing on the team that wins, then I have no claim to pride.
