    I hope devs will remove such unrealistic element from the game after beta, this is not a CoD, nobody sane would wear a gas mask in the battle without need(and there is no need becouse no one used gas even in such war as ww2).

    If there would not be added some chemical weapons or tear gases or similar,
    then this should remain just in this pics . . .
    perhaps theres no particular game play purpose but as you mentioned there is the matter of atmosphere. perhaps the devs intend to have a map where there is some chemical/biological/nuclear contamination. in which case it would kill the atmosphere if playermodels didnt have them on.

    also lets remember that if that were the case the gameplay wouldn't really change. You dont remove the gas mask anywhere within contaminated zones even at the main. no one will remove their mask and no one needs to then put it on. there being no other function than an aesthetic one in terms of a game doesnt simply mean they are there for no reason. they serve a purpose they simply are not interactive.

    even if it's technically clean i'm going to list a few places where if soldiers were fighting gas masks would be required.
    -nuclear facilities of which the structure, security, or contents of the building is suspect
    -biological and/or chemical laboratories which contain, produce, or are suspected to contain or produce such types of dangerous materials

    what no one remember Moscow Theater Siege, where the russian army used gas against the militia ?

    Moscow theater hostage crisis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    iraq used chemical weapons...against the kurds...

    i believe that more tools will make pr a much more interesting game... why be stingy with stuff ... so many things in BF2 SF that could be used in PR...

    i remember using gas against enemy's in BF2 SF in enclosed spaces ... so cool XD

    good luck Chuc .

    @unhealed:
    yes nobody used gas during world war 2, but only because it was frowned upon while the tragedies of ww1 were still fresh in everyone's minds. hitler forbade the use of gas on the battlefield because he himself was in the trenches during the first war. It was also not a tactically viable move. ww1 was bogged down in trenches where such low tech and simple gasses like mustard gas and chlorine could sink into and work effectively. ww2 was much faster paced and use of the same gasses would have not been effective on such mobile forces.

    it is only recently over the last few decades where chemical and biological agents which have a lasting effect and can hang in the air which can be utilized against modern infantry have come into play.

    in fact NBC attacks were used during the early parts of the iraq war. scud missiles were used to carry chemical and sometimes nuclear payloads. thankfully the hot desert made the chemical gas practically useless and the scuds were not very accurate.

    and whether or not there IS NBC in the area is irrelevant, if there is a threat of gas being in the area, masks are on until it can be confirmed 100% that the area is clean. and no, unlike in movies most of these agents cannot be seen as a thick white fog.
