Hey all!

I know its been some time since you've heard anything about the development of PR:Falklands but rest assured we have been working hard behind the scenes on lots of new awesome content and features for v1.4 and most of them are just getting into the state where we can start to show them off! 8-)

Now since the Type 21 Frigate is such a big item with so many sub-systems and gameplay features to talk about its not really possible to feature everything in one massive update post without making your eyes bleed. As such we are going to be drip feeding you lots of small little updates about each individual system :D

This first update in the "Type 21 Systems" series of updates is on a small, but very important bit of kit on the ship, the Type 912 Director Radar (aka Fire Control Radar, aka Tracker Radar).
This was a commercial lightweight radar, that broke new ground for the Royal Navy, and proved very successful throughout its life. It has a slatted parabolic reflector and employs digital logic for range tracking and timing, allowing easy interface with the computer. Full 360 degrees training is possible; elevation limits are -25 degrees depression and +90 degrees elevation.

The Type 912 can augment primary surveillance radars and is used for target tracking, both airborne and surface. It is particularly useful during autonomous search, the X-band pencil-beam radiation allowing detection of potential targets at low altitude. The tracker has the ability to operate in a hostile electronic environment, and can acquire and track targets automatically, when 'indicated' from the Computer Assisted Action Information System (CAAIS). Conventional air targets can be detected at more than 20 n.m. during search and the radar automatically locks on to designated targets.

A Marconi 323 CCTV Camera broad-sighted to the after aerial, drives a display on the Controller's Console, allowing acquiring, firing and guidance of a weapon from the Operations Room. The camera can also be used for manual visual aiming or monitoring the radar during automatic tracking.

The Type 21, Amazon Class Frigate has two of these Director Radars fitted to them, one just forward of the Fore-Mast on a little platform, behind the Bridge, and one abaft the funnel. The forward Type 912 Director Radar is mainly used in conjunction with the 4.5" Vickers Mk. 8 Naval Gun and the aft one being primarily responsible GWS-24 Sea Cat SAM's Fire Control.

In-Game these director radars will function in pretty much the same way as they did in real-life, with the forward Type 912 Director Radar controlling the 4.5" Vickers Mk. 8 Naval Gun and the aft controlling GWS-24 Sea Cat SAM.

What this basically means is that your view, when in the seat for controlling these weapons, will be from the CCTV Camera mounted on these Director Radars, with these radars also providing you with target "lock boxes" & target range. For the GWS-24 Sea Cat SAM, this Director Radar will also allow you to also fire in Automatic Command to Line-Of-Sight (ACLOS) mode as well as Semi-Automatic Command to Line-Of-Sight (SACLOS) mode. There will be more about this in the subsequent updates for each of these weapon systems.

This is also the new "HUD Frame" you will have for your CCTV Camera View :D

Cheers all and stay tuned for more updates! :D

Cheers Richy but sorry to burst your bubble on the Torpedoes, but in r/l at least, they where just an Anti-Submarine weapon (although I guess it would be possible to use them on surface vessels) that weren't used (afaik) during the Falklands War, and the current plan is not to have the Torpedoes usable, but after your enthusiasm I may look into that again hehe
