Bastion and the Surrounding Terrain are pretty much done

Hey everyone, just a quick one to keep you posted on development, Camp Bastion is now pretty much finished, it needs a few other additions but I'll have to wait for those to be made first The runway model itself is another one of Rhino's amazing additions! The surrounding terrain is pretty much sorted too, again, its just awaiting a few other bits to be made to finish it off. Here's an updated minimap and a few screenshots of a Bastion (which is around 1700m x 1200m at its widest and longest points) in its current state:



An editor shot to show the full base (a large part of Bastion is in the surrounding terrain to save on space whilst still giving the impression of a larger base):

(ignore the black patches to the right, the runway will be fixed with shaders etc in the future)








(please note that the tower in the image below is just a placeholder, as are the concrete barriers)














So what's next? Some more performance tweaks whilst I await Rhino's 'IKEA store' to finish manufacturing all its goods XD (New IKEA Store Opening in Helmand! - Project Reality Forums), then it'll be compounds, final details including all the new fields, final terrain tweaks, FOB buildings and cabling work, gamemodes, lightmaps etc, and finally on to testing

    You are absolutely right, if it ever happens every Marine should be equipped with standard issue C4.

    Damn strong buildings, issue tactical JDAMS instead.

    I agree on the immersion point, but its going to be cosmetic only considering the lack of players will give the ghost-town feel.

    Perception is important when players see a maximum of 32 around considering its a base numbering over 10,000 people.

    Just my two cents, look forward to checking it out.

    Well I could have gone for a smaller base, but since Camp Bastion is the main base of operations for all ISAF forces in Afghanistan, I think it is symbolic of the ISAF effort over there. It is also a base from which jets and helicopters would realistically fly out on operations from. I have made it so the Taliban can't get close enough to really see/fire into the base to help simulate the fact that in real life it is much further away from the Sangin Valley.

    Well players are focused into only small areas of the base, so while there is a huge tent city right next door, no one needs to go there, nor see any players there as in r/l, the troops stay inside the tents most of the time with the doors closed and AC on full

    Will there be jets? And if so, do they work well on insurgency? Also, this would b the first 4km INS map right?

    You will have to wait and see and yes, this will most likely be the first official 4km INS map although there are some others in development.
