As we hit the final stretch until release, here are the map images for PR: BF2 v0.96.

Included are the map overviews and the loading background images.

Also included are detailed overviews, which are automatically generated by an application I wrote to heavily reduce the time it takes to create the map overviews. These are not shown anywhere ingame, they are simply a development tool that I have decided to show. They contain mostly the same information as the map overviews, with the added bonus of seeing some more detail.

For example, you can use the control point id on the helper image for getting route data in AASv4. Note that control point id's are represent the following:

The first digit is the flag group, which represents the cap order. If flags have the same first digit, then they are all used, or they are randomly selected by the second digit.
The second digit represents how many flags are randomly chosen from the group as defined by the first digit. So 0 means all the control points in the group are used, 1 means only 1 control point is used, 2 means 2 control points, etc.
The third digit represents the route, which is randomly selected. Only one route is used at a time.


So these detailed overview images may give you some more information that is not represented in the map overviews, if you aren't confused by it all :p.

I hope everyone enjoys the 137 separate layers that are in PR: BF2 v0.96, and hopefully server admins will rotate between them to keep people interested. Almost every layer has received some level of change, from simple ticket modifications, to complete overhauls of control points and vehicles.

Expect more news of the upcoming PR: BF2 v0.96 release in the next week :).

Problem is that the different team used must have the same language. Canadian Forces, US Army and US Marines use all the same set of languages so we can have different factions in different layers of a single map with those factions.

It wouldn't be possible to have German and British Forces on two different layers for example.

Check Ramiel as well. ;)

If I had to guess, Wanda Shan is probably out while the mapper and the rest of the team continue to optimize it. I'd be really pissed off at certain members of the community if the mapmaker had it pulled on account felt of all the destructive feedback it got.

Looks like an awesome update, awesome to see Canada on Kokan, that should be interesting, shame to see Wanda go though simply because of a bunch of complainers/whiners

P.S. so the Lashkar infantry layer also gets APCs, is it just less than the Standard layer then?

I guess this release will only be to improve, optimize and fix for the most part. I'm ok with that, but I'm almost sure that we will hear and read people whining about the lack of new content.

I don't think any change will salvage Korengal Valley and it's a shame Wanda Shan is not there. Shijia Valley in the other hand looks exciting to play.

Insurgency Dragonfly is going to be VERY interesting. Shame there are no BMP-1's at all though.

Smart putting the Canadians on Kokan, they're honestly a dead faction considering development has pretty much stopped entirely. Loving this as well.. We have decided not to add much new content and focus on the current bugs of 0.95 for this release. ;)
It can be frustating (even for us developers) not to have new toys/places to play with, but optmization and map fixing was really needed.
BMPs (as well as a lot of new vehicles) will be added on 0.96+

Looks like it. I wonder who actually gets to Airfield first though, the US flying or the Chinese driving.

Also, I see the Brits have no artillery or J-DAM on Burning Sands. Interesting. And choppers back on the Alt layer of Basrah, some pretty cool changes, can't wait for release :D

EDIT: On the Dragonfly Detailed Overviews for Ins. it says Militia have Arty, which I assume is a typo?

I mean development in the same vein as the Russians or US. The last additions were the small arms, and they're still using outdated kit geometries. They need a severe overhaul in terms of look and gameplay dynamic in order to be taken seriously IMO. This doesn't mean new assets. Its literally just the USMC except with a few negligible changes. Anyway sorta off topic but thats just my 2c.

Every response I've ever seen on the matter has stated that its extremely unrealistic to have LAVs deployed from the carrier, and that the AAVPs would be staying. I can't imagine that's changed.

well thank you for the feedback, however teh exporters have been working very hard on a number of things, and a community member has stepped up to do work on the Canadians looks...so theres no point in the team doing it and just doubling the work for the same reward.

no the long delay comes from a large combination of things, we had a loss of a couple of DEVs from the PR BF2 staff, and a few personel problems, e.g. myself not being too good at the mapping manager job, combined with some bugs that needed to be ironed out and just other problems that occur.

This patch was supposed to be released a long time ago with only bugfixing in mind, now its a bugfix patch with extra goodies. The 128 stuff is being worked on primarily by Soppa and terma, which is one of the reasons the 128 test server is still going

Nice to see GAZA with AAS routes. That'll be good for some really focused fighting. :D

Awesome to see Dragonfly finally fully realized. Ever since it was released I thought it was built for INS in mind. Curious as to why certain locations (the North Fields) lost any CP meaning. Nice area to be in.

Looking forward to AASv4 Sands. Will certainly make for tense fightings. Though the airport is a huge CP by comparison.

Kokan is modified for the better.

I think the changes for Baracuuda might indicate a USMC bleed. Considering that they will most certainly (given good pilots) take Airfield first they should get penalized if they lose it.

No more scoot choppers in Qwai. (indiffernt)

Shijia looks like it might have gotten a brighter look then when TG tested it. Wonderful.

Yamalia seems to be keeping its paradrop ^_^

You can always give up a huge chunk of your time and learn modding and then once you've learnt how to mod, give up another huge chunk of your time to make stuff if you want to help speed up patches and ensure they have more content in them?

I hope to see some more news on the PLA Zhi-9WA Light Attack Helicopter in the next week, apart from Shijia valley that is the one thing I am the most excited about, unless you guys of course reveal even more awesome stuff next week.
And even if there isn't I do understand that things take time.
Can't be angry at you guys no matter what after all, though I will miss Wanda Shan as well. Hope to see it back some day, still with that bumpy terrain :D

dtacs is correct. :) Some of the flags that are marked with a simple "X" on the overview are actually many flags, but since it's the same basic location, one "X" sufficiently marks the spot. Don't worry, you'll see plenty of the city and power plant.

I dont know, I'm still glad its a bug fix and glad they devoted so much time to it. I am personally tired of getting CTD when my machine is more than capable to run arma 2 on high and getting my tank destroyed just for hitting a freaking table on Gaza Beach.

Why is Wanda Shan out of the Maplist ? Can someon explain me the PR-Dev policy of this actions ? Same to EJOD Desert , etc. pp. A lot of people dont understand that.

There is 137 layers/variations of maps, i think that is more than enough for variety so far. There are enough maps, but mainstrem noobs will go Muttrah only, so the rest of the maps and their variations is of no use to them...

When people learn to play all good maps, and when only good maps are made (since some lack the detail and are not up to standard), the admins will set more varied maplists...

One thing that [R-DEV]AncientMan mentioned but I'll mention again is that although we don't have a long list of new maps (like in a regular release), there have been lots of improvements on existing maps. So if you encourage your server admins to load more of the alternate layers (like CnC, vehicle warfare, skirmish, 16/infantry, etc.), you'll have 137 variations... plus AASv4 on lots of the maps. ;-)

(not ine line, you can find many other like 'Korengal valley only 20fps, and is not playable')

This might be out of place to ask, but if this patch comes out all rosy and such - no major bugs and way better optimization - do you guys plan on following it up with a content-heavy patch fairly quickly?

I found 3 things that appear to be wrong in the map previews:

1) Al Basrah Co-op Std appears to use the Inf layer map
2) Jabal al Burj is missing its Co-op layer altogather
3) Kozelsk Co-op is likewise missing

Also it looks like most Co-op maps will still be missing the much need logi trucks (any tracked armour is as good as dead, meaning 1 LAT kills almost everthing).

not all maps have had the treatment, not that some more 'won't' but US army on Muttrah would just be folly tbh, amphibious US operations are clearly not their thing. Canadians maybe, but dunno anything about their amphibious operations irl.

As far as I know the Canadian would have as hard of a time as the US Army since we don't have anything like the AAV. The few thing that could swim in rivers have also had those capabilities removed for cost reasons. If Ramiel had a 4th layer the Canadian Forces would work as it's set in Somalia where Canada was involed. Qwai River or Kashan would be the only other real options as the rest are water maps or in places like Iraq where there are no Canadians.

The most you could hope for in that respects is that the US Army would be providing some support via vehicles like extra helicopters or tanks but tbh this would be very rare in the case of the USMC as they are very, very self sufficient.

Canada as far as I'm aware do not have the resources to pull off a large scale amphibious assault and would also require a Canadian Amphibious Assault ship to be made which according to this (http://www.navy.forces.gc.ca/cms/1/1_eng.asp) they don't have and even if they did, a huge amount of work to make and pretty tricky putting two carriers in one map that would both spawn on different layers.

The reason why I hate forested maps... hopefully I can snag a bit more frames with the optimization coming.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think those are BRDMs (armed/unarmed).
