Green Iveco is cool, never seen those before either. Do we have any Ivecos painted green at all?

Is it correct that we 6 numbers on the number plate for the Ivecos sent out to afg?
Minor problem, but i saw it easily. Just looks a little wierd...(normal is 5)

Nicely done. Although un-able to find them in a camouflage pattern, it still looks good. Only suggestion I have is to increase the colour of the brown, as it's quite greenish at the moment.

I'm guessing this model is one of the most detailed cars you've done, maybe entire asset.

Have you changed anything? And are we likely to see updates on the other assets?

To all the people saying that its fantastically detailed and will have too high polys, etc.... It will most likely be baked down (or whatever the terminology) to BF2 specs, therefore losing a bit of detail.

I remember reading a post somewhere that a dev said something about all models must be up to A2 or better specs so they can use it there as well.

Well no, almost.. For these renders I used 2048x2048 textures, in BF2PR the model will have 1024x1024 textures and they will be compressed, but the model will not be simplyfied (its all about good LODs). ;-)

Imagine having a bull elk or big buck hit that thing head on, animal would flip over roof and get impaled in the nade launchers over windshield.

Which brings me to my point, what happens to BF2 ragdolls when they get run over head on by this vehicle?

The MB, however:

http://undermyfat.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/mercedes-benz_gelc3a4ndewagen_norwegian_miltary_mb240gd_sid e.jpg?w=500&h=375

Note the roof grid, as well as the rear antenna mounts, as visible in the MG3 pic posted.

Now, the question that comes up is: how much of a nerd is [R-MOD]KP for knowing the ins and outs of the MB roof grid and antenna mounts?

Come to think of it, I have been known to spend some time crawling around on and in them to try and rig up the platoon commander's comms. In addition to the normal use of them, obviously.

@ KP, signals? Btw, you only have softtops, no hardtops?

H.sta
2011-05-11, 18:24
There are only a few hardtops, and most of them are armored or used by the airforce, there won't be a hardtop MB ingame for us. (unless if used as placeholder)

KP
2011-05-11, 19:33
@ KP, signals? Btw, you only have softtops, no hardtops?

Not really. Was trained as patrol signaller, so I knew a thing or two about comms. Unlike most of the instructors. So I became one of the "chosen ones" who had to do some crawling and figuring out how to get the AN/PRC-77 hooked up to the vehicle comms rack, vehicle power supply, amplifier and whip antenna. Two of us (both with the same patrol signaller background), who became de facto staff members on bigger excercises. Just to keep the platoon comms up. Good times.

Back on topic: As far as I know, the armoured MBs aren't used much (or at all) in Afghanistan these days. It's mostly 290 Multis. Back home, normal units are generally using un-armoured MB 240GDs, with soft-tops.

H.sta
2011-05-11, 20:07
The armored vehicles are pulled out of service (Given to the Latvians, if I recall correctly, in Afghanistan) , even the VIP/escort service is retiring their MB290s. the guy I talked to about it said they might be getting IVECOs, even for VIP transport duty in Oslo.

KP
2011-05-11, 21:14
So that's where they went! I knew we'd supplied some kit to the Latvians, but I'd no idea their armoured MBs weren't originally theirs.

For escort duty, I guess they could be supplementing with the Iveco. They're not exactly low-profile, compared to an MB, particularly the more civilian-looking versions. So for Oslo missions, they might choose to go more low-profile, but keep the Iveco for higher-risk stuff?

H.sta
2011-05-11, 21:22
They have two sets of vehicles, one set low profile(Currently black) and one set of camo coulored ones.
He current MBs are not excactly low profile imo, they are just black. I don't think an IVECO painted black would be so much different.

KP
2011-05-11, 21:42
They are a bit bigger, though, and - IMO - scream "military" more than the MB. But, of course, your average civilian might see things differently.

Mind you, I have no contacts in that area of the Forces, and they probably know much better than me what works and not.

They just don't feel as solid as they should be, sort of like they are a bit too light. The Humvee physics are right on (excluding the pre 0.95 BMP-3 style gravity), hopefully this can be similar. Never hurts to have some custom traits to set it apart from the other vehicles though.

well hopefully you are smart enough to realize a armored vehicle won't have the same driving characteristics as a unarmored light vehicle. and will leave it at that, no more complaining about vehicle physics in this topic. make a new one if you feel like it is not up to your expectations of a vehicle i am pretty sure you have never driven

In their wisdom, MoD decided to buy some Ivecos, probably for selected units. There were tests where Iveco was compared to GAZ Tigr, Iveco failed in cross-country test but it has better armor.

Anyway, MoD is planning to buy 1.5 thousands of those, Berlusconi would be happy.

Logic tells me that it's for recon units, but we'll see.
There is no any sort of regulation on using such vehicles, so it would be decided later what to do with them.
