After countless hours of development, thousands of code changes, an intensive testing period, and a successful "preload" early release, we are pleased to announce the general availability of Project Reality version 0.95. As Project Reality fans are already aware of, the password required to unlock the installer for the preload version is now available and listed below. You can also obtain it on the official password page (https://www.realitymod.com/password/).

Truely appreciate all of the hard work and time spend developing this new version.

I've been playing all morning and I just have to pick at a few things:

Co-op mode, bot vehicles on human team = massive annoyance. You have one asset to use and 15 people trying to get it. This is causing problems already.

Lack of sounds/indicaters when light vehicles taking damage. Just some kind of dull red flash.....made me wonder if it was smoke or something.....wait, nope thats me taking damage. Funny I couldn't hear the 'tings'.

I CTD'ed 3 times this morning. I never CTD......well, not until .95


Regardless of this, I am a devout fan even when this game pisses me off to no end. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HARD WORK. PR For Life!

Good Idea with wounded ticket lost but with 350 tickets on kashan you will lose a lot of fans.

If you have Vista (maybe Windows 7 as well), try turning off UAC (search for it in the control panel). This will make the installer load instantly.

The new features are awesome, just such a shame that things aren't tested correctly as I've never seen a more bug filled version of PR in the 3 years I have been playing it... lag lag lag - crash - lag lag lag - crash is the general theme of the evening....

Shame as it looks a nice looking version with some very nice features - but maybe the BF2 engine has been pushed way past it's limits....

I appreciate the vast amount of hard work that went into this, but this new version is a desperate need of fixing. The points of lag and crashes got across, so I'll add on to what else needs to be critiqued:

*The new Ak-74 model is horrible. One of the best models of the rifle I've ever seen has come from PR, and no offense to FA:S, it looks just like their ill-modeled Ak-47. Now, it is not the sexy Ak-74 model I used to know; plastic surgery I guess seems to make everything look worse, no matter what it is.

*The GP-25 can range to 850m while the M203 can only range to 250m?

*Vehicles are once again one-manable (at least in the Stryker it is).

*Absence of bayonets for Aks and ARs? I am disappoint.

*Some FOBs do not show up on the tacmap, thus making them indistinguishable from friend and foe.

*Whilst playing I had a squadmate call out contact via the comma rose. Looking to my tacmap, the enemy was spotted, flashing red, and moving. Just like in regular BF2.

*Medic bag has been stripped of it's healing animation, and even the HUD indicator. No way of telling I'm healing or doing nothing. Might even be the bag automatically heals, just like in regular BF2.

*The new M249 is horrible. Only the Canadians use the collapsible AR stock. I've never seen a US Soldier/Marine utilize one with said stock, only the para and fixed stock.

*ACOG optics are still very inaccurate. Acog scope - Bohemia Interactive Forums (http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=89830)


Once again I state, this is just constructive criticism, I do not mean to offend. Just saying, things definitely need to be fixed. All this was gathered after just forty minutes of gameplay.

It only took about a half hour for the installers to pop-up. Thanks for the advice I'll have to remember that for the next release.

Finally started playing. Been messing around with the mortars in co-op, and I fricken love 'em.

Looks great. New maps for co-op and single player. Awesome.

May have a problem with the SL deploying assets, specifically, Barbed wire. It deploys then it falls down and un-deploys. Other assets like FO, HMG and Mortars work fine.

I tried deploying some extra barbed wire at the VCP in Operation Archer (std). The FO deployed normally. But the Barbed wire deployed, then undeployed after a second.

I think it's a bug.

the problem with the ctds, I tried deleting my cache and I havent had another ctd yet

That seems like a likely solution. If people have another mod that edits shaders, such as Forgotten Hope 2 or Operation Dead Dawn, they will need to do this so that the shaders get cleared out and don't have any problems.

I'll try it now, but it seems sound in theory.

That doesn't solve the problem for me, i still get ctd's even after the cache delete. Today , i will try to reduce my resolution down a notch just in case it's a memory problem.

Okay. I have tested some/most of the GLs and here are the results (not 100% sure about the names of them, sorry);

M203 (US etc) - 250m.
L8-1 (China) - 250m

L17A2 (GB) - 350m

HK-79 (MEC) - 400m
GP-25 (Militia etc) - 400m (yes not 850m)

What I assume is that it differs because thats how the ranges are on the leaf sight (same IRL). On the M203 its 5 lines and that results in 50m, 100m, 150m, 200m, 250m. Other weapons have more lines which means more ranges.

Am I right? ;) :D

Not sure how this belongs to this thread but anyway..

Patch 1.50 for the core BF2-game (released on Sept 1st 2009) allowed BF2.exe to use more than 2GB of RAM. If you look in the game-folder, there is since 1.50 both a BF2.exe (now for 64-bit users) and bf2_w32ded.exe for 32-bit users (or maybe it is the other way around? nah, this is how it is afaik).

When using the correct .exe (for 64-bit users) you shouldn't get any memory error when loading anymore.. ;) :D

I remembered after posting that post that PR has its own .exe. I'm not sure if that .exe is allowed to use more than 2GB of RAM or not (I think it is since I haven't had any memory errors with PR since 1.50). Anyway, if it isn't allowed then maybe we should have two PR exe's too like vBF2.. ;)

Myself, carrying an M249 with a collapsible stock. This was back in 07-08 in Iraq, and collapsible stocks were easily the most common stock, with para right behind it. The 'stubby' barreled M249 with a collapsible stock was extremely proliferated due to the mechanized patrols and house to house fighting which made it necessary to have an automatic weapons solution in as compact a package as possible for dismounts at the time.

BF2.exe is LargeAddressAware, which, simply put means it can use all the ram it wants..

On my PC BF2.exe uses 2.1GB & PR.exe sits around 40MB....=2.14 GB...

When using the correct .exe (for 64-bit users) you shouldn't get any memory error when loading anymore.. ;) :D

W32ded is for dedicated servers, hence the "ded" hehe. BF2.exe is for both 32bit and 64bit, it is the main game executable. There is also bf2_r.exe if you have installed the editor, which is for debugging (and it shows memory usage as it loads).

There's two parts to the modification for 32bit users, and the other part is not connected to the executable itself, but rather is a modification to the Operating System. So the 1.5 patch will solve the issue for people with a 64bit operating system, but PR will not work for people on a 32bit Vista-onwards operating system on high.

I agree the new stuff is awesome but sadly it seems to have some kind of issue with ctds (havent had these with 0.917 so im assuming its the update causing them). Which makes it less good for me.

+1 Entreaty from all players GAMEPOLIS.RU and many other Russian players- bring the old ticket system back!. Rounds became very short-now it is BAD COMPANY2, and this system doesn't concern "reality". All of us are very suppressed by your decision

I do not like the new ticket loss for being wounded, It has a negative effect on tactics, less motivation to advance into enemy lines, the old one was perfect. I want the old one :/

I like the shorter rounds! Maybe some maps could use a slight increase but spending an entire week playing the same maps because of the server's map rotation sucks hard! You spend 6 hours and only play 2 of all the very beautifull maps is just wrong.

No, its not. Because PR is a tactic Game and not a CS Shooter. So its cool to build a Firebase, spend some time there, search the Cache or a good tactic for the enemy flag!

But guys like bad company players dont like that - for sure!

You can do it, but need to set password on your server. Server licence clearly states you're NOT allowed to adjust it
The following are unacceptable mods for publicly accessible internet servers:

Take it easy mate. Remember: The developers do all this for free, in their spare-time. There is no benefit or pay for this at all.

I just had to stop here and say how awesome this mod is. Played 3 rounds on the german Coffeeshop and for some miraculous reason there was no massive CTD goind on, there was not even a soundbug. I deleted the BF2 PR chache from my documents, perhaps that helped a bit but who knows. I'm just glad I was able to experience the mod as intended by the devs and it was fantastic!

Some rounds are a bit short, no doubt about that. Muttrah, Barracuda and the China vs Russia map ended before anything major happened. There was simply not enough time for one team to develop an advantage over the other. That doesn't mean I want the old ticket system back - this one is far better and fair imo - it's just that the rounds could last like 30-50% longer. Not as long as in the previous version but something in between. I can't comment the insurgency maps as I've played only rounds with conventional armies.

Congratiulations to the sound department, the improvement in this area is unbelievable. I also think the new kits, vehicles, weapons, game mechanics, effects and pretty much every change since the 0.91 is for the better. It's difficult to appreciate that when you constantly CTD or BSOD but I was lucky enough to play few rounds in a row and it's obvious.. this mod is unlike anything in the gaming industry and it's community as well. PR Devs + all the guys on Coffeshop today - thank you all :-)

Everything seems fine but one thing.

You can't pick up limited kit of the other team.. It's not realistic at all, I Mean it's called Project reality.
How would it be realistic? In real life if the number is limited and die in enemy hands, you lost it for good. Why not in this game too...

The tickets should represent soldiers/vehicles, reinforcements in other words. With this in mind you shouldn't lose those tickets for being wounded, because when someone gets revived it's still the same soldier fighting, not a new one.

Also I think you should be able to pick up enemy kits, it's realistic to be able to do that. I can see how you think it helps the balance but it's part of the strategy to be careful with the limited kits so the enemy won't get their hands on them. Now you can just take a powerful limited kit and rush into enemy lines without having to think about the consiquences, I really don't like that. And to be honest I think the balance is good already, almost always when a team does really bad it doesn't have anything to do with people who have taken their kits, it's about team coordination.

I hope you take this into consideration because i'm pretty sure that plenty of people agree with me.
Otherwise you have done an extremely good job and you really deserve credit for that, and then we just need to fix the serious bugs and glitches and it couldn't be more perfect.

As for rounds, well, I was fine with the previous ticket numbers. These rounds are way too quick,and they sometimes lack the fun. One exception would be Yamalia, that map is fine with 25 tickets.

Can we get a Roll Back please. I play everyday and these last couple of days have been seriously annoying. Cant pick up enemy weapons, cant see anything after being wounded. So many bugs and CTDs I dont understand why it wasnt tested more before being released. Im a loyal PR Fan, but a disappointed one. Sorry Devs. You screwed up with this one.

You don't gain medical training because you killed a medic, neither do you become an expert marksman by picking up a sniper kit(You can use the LAT, btw). This, along with the multitude of reasons previously listed several times by several people throughout this thread, is the reason why kits that require specific training to use are not usable by opposing factions.

The sniper sort of makes sense because in real life you would probably never see a sniper. Therefore, you would not be able to find him, kill him, and pick up his kit.

Yes but we don't really play THAT realistic and we don't do casevac for wounded players so....
Anyway, the ticket system in the previous version made perfect round lenghts so I don't think we should fix what isn't broken. It wasn't all a bad idea but it just doesn't work out as well as we would have hoped.

Snipers aren't ninjas in real life, they can and do get killed.

As for weapons , the old system was unrealistic and the new system is unrealistic. A realistic implementation isn't possible.

The old system was unrealistic as you simply cant pick up a weapon and be an expert on it in an instant. You also would not be able to reload the thing! (off the top of my head, no opposing factions share similar calibres... maybe on 1 or 2 guns but thats it). Plus, people did it constantly (due to the above ability to use it efficiently And reload them). People simply will not pick up unfamilar weapons anywhere near as much as it happens in PR. it just does not happen.

Many of us have problems with CTD, I recommend you to lower your grafic settings, some of the new maps are quite BIG. Worked for me.. anyway.:shock:

Then, may issue:

I do not know who of you made the map "burning sand"... but honestly WTF?

After exploring the map briefly on my own (created LAN) I had to sit down, lean bak and pour myself a scotch!

One slight disappointment: Since I started playing PR at 0.6 or so, with every new release I secretly hope for the return (or at least cameo appearance) of the old Desert Combat theme tune ('We're poor little lambs, we've lost our way...').

Not this time either then I guess...we're running out of numbers until the Big '1', but I am still hoping. :m1helmet:

Ok, I've been playing for a bit now and I have to say you have created something over my expectations.

I changed my mind regarding the kit usage update, I love that update and it is realistic since you can still use regular rifleman kits and you can also use enemy field dressings and ammo if you keep it short.

I'm still not so fond about ticket loss for being wounded, it bothers me very little but i still would prefer not to have ticket loss for being wounded.

I'm getting eargasms from the new soundeffects and i love the new weapon/equipment updates and their animations. And the new kit looks and kit's lying on the ground are so sexy, really good job there.

I noticed that if the enemy has mortars and a commander with UAV the other team has no chance what so ever to set up a firebase, or to set up anything. Don't know my opinion on this yet but mortars are indeed a very powerful asset.

That's all for now, I don't get any crashes since I play textures on medium and everything else on highest, it works really well. I'll get back to my game now ;)

Now I?ve been playing a bit moore and have to say something about them sounds.
They improve the game radically, not only ?cause they are so great and realistic, but also now you hear soldiers moving around.

That is, if one is pinned down in rural area it is easy to stay in cover and also to ambush squads which they are rushing rushing forward.

Now we all have to learn moore about tactical behavior in field.
Low positions, no running about. = me like

Maybe the same type of tweaks will come up here soon and you can all enjoy the new PR.

I can't believe I'm one of the lucky few that can play without errors now. My last game lasted several hours over 3 maps, there was no soundbug and the performance was silky smooth. Our squad members were not very happy about the Puma climbing performance but other than that the Lashkar Valley today was one one of the most epic rounds I've ever played. I don't remember this map to be so enjoyable in the previous version. Also kudos go the ze German faction team and whoever improved the Taliban. Great job folks!!

Long time fan, first time post; signed up around .85 but then decided most of my complaints were actually features designed to keep the idiot BC crowd out. Lemme jus say, it's certainly getting close to that 1.0 now; imagine if 'they' had put dollaz into PR instead of the aptly named Bad Company series? (they might not have half of India workin the complaints lines for a start)

Couple bug posts (A drawback for such a popular mod is that all its forum threads are too chock full of kudos to find any info :P so zombie mod restriction noted [i submit!] otherwise reprints bedamn'd)

Presumably the difficulty in appropriating (or expropriating) vehicles at the commencement of a SP match due to squad restrictions has already been bemoaned. The firing squad for dragging some semi-existent bot from a chopper by his most immediately graspable appendage is a bit harsh, eh?

When firing from an elevated position, the inertia the AT type weapons now have (yay) seems to blast the SP AI into the ground, which they find inextricably confusing (the ones in vehicles - the ones without presumably save themselves the cost of a burial).

The destructible walls (especially the big ones) are also causing the AI some problems, could you maybe mark them as hostile somehow?

Look, I joked b4 abt scaring off BC peeps, but i think you may still need a bridge between yr simulation of inaccuracy due to 'behind-the-scenes' movements and ignorance (aka 'f**k this s**t'). While we are all crack shots, it's not apparent when the PR rules are pointing the rifle in the floating arms exactly at the bad guy, as it would be uh.. in Reality. Well, you call yrselves PR; the reality is that were all playing f'n computers, and compromises have to be made. My first idea was an indicator of some sort in a corner (obv u don wan xhairs) that indicated graphically or numerically wht yr current accuracy penalty was, but i think my best idea is to re-appropriate one of the BF2 reload bars to the left or right or wherever, if you can colour it such that it is maxd and red when sprinting, yellow when moving to position, and 'green to depleted' only when - im gonna say 'the player would be happy with the results of pulling the trigger at that point'. Perhaps a similarly coloured crosshair icon at an extremity of the bar, or such that you see fit after testing? The upshot, so to speak, would be that it could also be used for snipers, short & long turret CDs, and other situations where the player may not know wht the fck, such as artillery pieces or the secret pancake rifle. HMGunners and snipers sick of revealing themselves way too early say aye!

PR was the only mod or game to ever, in the whole history of time and everything else (in my experience), that had a useful universal grenade launcher ladder overlay. The new one though .. ima be Frank .. 'Hi, I'm Frank. Your new GL ladder sucks.' srsly tho, since i liked the old one just fine, i'd rather u had rolld ur nifty adjustable range-o-non-matic out on those fireworks tubes the LAT carry, because with the GL i can't use it as well to .. uh como si dice .. i can't get used to the firing arc with the angle changing every other shot or team(weapon); which ultimately makes it harder to hit choppers, a hobby of mine. The easy answer i spose is to always use the same GL range and get used to each gun, yeah; but i would say again - tubes too plox (even if it's just one or two rngs)!

surely the spread on the PKM type HMG is still a bit much; i mean, i know they are supposed to have been sitting in Tora Bora since 1989, but if it was never able to be used effectively, presumably they would have spent a lil longer designing something that wasn't as useless at shooting targets directly ahead as, say, a BOT ONNA CHOPPA GUN .. see what i did there? saving ma bullet points, jus like in PR

ramiel - can't get out of a fixd HMG near point alpha (im gonna say inf, check both). Hopefully others have made more detailed reports in this regard; i don wanna be all qq all the the time.

a) yeah dem maps be big (yay), even with 'game booster', my barely sufficient 2 gig o ram seems to sizzle on SP (i'll get around to MP [now that i can be somewhat more confident of hitting someone standing right in front of me], but i presume the AI adds a fairly substantial chunk to the whole ... thing that's going on in there [having to use dodgy ATI VSync can't help]).

b) it's when she knows the drugs' retail names that you have to worry ;)

I got a feeling that now in later versions it is getting moore common to kill urself when, as SL, deploying. Is it possible to make it harder/impossible to kill self or others when deploying?
I also would love a "ghost" shadow of what I try to deploy, red when on bad spot green when possible to deploy.
Sometimes deploying in rough terrain takes long time and ends up with killing myself.

Everytime a new Version is out, or during bigger holidays, them servers get filled wit yuongsters normally playing CoD or CS. It spoils the joy of this game.
I see no other solution than that u let Skirmish maps "loose" with less restriction... and make AAS and Insurgency moore "rigid" in punishment for not following rules.

Maps and strategy

I love many of ur maps. Al-Bashra is a classicer and Burning Sand will be, if u make it Insurgent.
Many of ur maps, however, can be improved by small means. Changing the rules/spawnpoints/caches and so on. Today many maps are played at in only a small segment of the map, wich is sad. It would be really nice to have the opportunity to squizze all the pontential out of ur nice maps. Contact me, Ill show u...

Been playing the new release a while now in both co-op and non-co-op servers. Also tried creating a local co-op game (Single Player) and there are some serious game play issues that need to be addressed.

In co-op maps, some assets are "bot only" and when try to use them you die. Example: The UH-1 chopper at the south end of the carrier deck on Muttrah is bot only and will kill you if your try to fly it. The exact opposite of bot-only needs to be implimented on co-op maps. By the time I finish loading in, the bots have already taken all of the human usable assets like choppers and I'm stranded on the carrier deck. Having all assets human playable and some of those ONLY human player usable would solve this issue.

Second serious issue, if you are trying to play, practice or try out strategies using a local co-op setup as a single player option, the barbed wire cannot be deployed by a single human. Bots in my squad ignore orders to build the asset when it's deployed in it's pre-built stage and a single human with a shovel can't do it by them selves.

Yes, I know PR is a TEAM WORK oriented game, but the bots make lousy team mates when it comes to things like this. If there was some way to make the AI controlled bots follow orders, this would not be so much of an issue. OR revert back to the "instant build" for all assets when playing as the squad leader of a squad of bots.

On the CTD issues, I have only had 2 or 3 over the course of two weeks of playing.

Round Durations: Some maps are now way too short. (Muttrah, Jabal, Quinling, Kashan Desert) Kashan used to be way too long. Went from one extreme to the other with this release.

Scopes/Iron Sights sight pictures: Overall I like the new sights with the exception of the sniper/marksman rifles. The blurred out of focus peripheral vision is great! Very realistic! good job! The sniper/marksman rifle, the sight eye relief is way to long, the scope should be closer and larger in the screen (like the old one). Right now, it's only 15% of the total screen height where before it was 50%. Change it back.

Overall, a good upgrade.

PS, the mortars as very cool.

I agree with Korg on those above mentioned issues, Died in that chopper too...
I too think that the COOP would be so much moore fun to play. It feels like there is not as much effort put on this than on the other game mods..

Nowadays the COOP is the "last resort" for us oldies, when the AAS and Ins from time to time is flooded by former CS and CoD of 8 yrs of age.:-x

Please please please, is it possible to make Burning Sand to insurgency map? a Looong timelimit... that would be jummy jummy. A lot to explore there and all kind of tactics from vast desert, over wetland to thight industrial and dense urban... the map is awesome. Only now It is hard to get to play it...ends too fast and is to strictly guided to the areas close to flags.

It would be nice if them bots really went to and STAYED at my move marker.

One glitch that always makes me both laugh and cry is when I drive my squad in any vehicle to a tactical spot. Then if we encounter enemy and I like to have control over when shooting the .50 cal. and on what, I switch to gunner seat to have that control and "of we go"...!!
The darned bot takes driver seat and ignores orders and starts driving to Good knows where...
Or if I go out of the vehicle to scout ahead..returning back and the whole squad is gone, vehicle and all, joyriding the countryside.

And also I have serious problems with deploying...I am pretty sure that it is now easier to kill self when deploing.
Is it possible to make deploing so that the construction only "shuffles" player aside? And I would also like a "ghost" image of the construction, changing red when I try to deploy where not possible and green when I hold it over a possible spot.

Can we get a Roll Back please. I play everyday and these last couple of days have been seriously annoying. Cant pick up enemy weapons, cant see anything after being wounded. So many bugs and CTDs I dont understand why it wasnt tested more before being released. Im a loyal PR Fan, but a disappointed one. Sorry Devs. You screwed up with this one.

Sure,u paid so much and u wasted so much of your free time to help them to develop it that u can be disappointed....

3 days ago I set up a new BF2 server for our group and applied for a licence to run the PR mod. Usually how long does it take to get an answer back on that.
