Here is my new insurgency map, Kokan, US vs Taliban. Its my first afghan map, featuring rural farming area around a river.



Compounds
Many compounds are full of tactical features, those are like small fortresses with alot of bottlenecks and easily defendable positions. But there is also alot of breakable doors and gates, by using those attackers can flank defenders or attack from multiple entrances at the same time into the compound with grenades and smoke.

Houses
All buildings are heavily detailed from inside, no other map has seen so much detail in these afghan buildings yet. This should provide alot more indoor firefights to the game because of now you cant just go inside a house and check it in few seconds, now you'll have to take a risk every time when you go around next corner. It should require alot of tactical thinking to clear 2 floor building full of organized enemies and easily defendable positions :)

Vehicles
US has alot of Humwees, 1 Blackhawk and 2 Kiowa helicopters, logistic trucks, 0-1 APCs 0-1 CROWS humwees. Taliban has quite alot of transportation but are seriously lacking technicals. Mainly Taliban has just 1 respawning technical depending little bit on gameplay layer, plus alot of technicals which are not respawning. So once they lose their technicals starting pool, helicopters will get alot stronger and US gains upper hand outside compounds.

Gameplay
Hopefully alot of humwees plus 3 light gunnery helicopters and lack of technicals will give US side upper hand and forces taliban to defend and ambush. But i also tried to make defending and ambushing more fun in this map =) Map has skirmish gamemode and 3 insurgency layers, each layer has small differences in vehicles setup.

Awesome! Can't wait to crawling around and causing trouble. But are those fields going to be easy on scopes? Yamalia currently slows down a lot of people's fps when they zoom.

It looks really sweet, it like how the compounds are spread out on the area.

Thanks everyone ! =) Its 2km map but doesnt use entire space, its basicly same size as most other insurgency maps are. Overview (minimap) will be released later ;)

I'm not a huge insurgency fan, but with more wheels for the US and less .50 techies for the insurgents it should as DEER planned end up being fun.

This is a stunningly beautiful map that is rich in details. You can really see the time and effort Deer put into making all of the complexes unique from the rest.

Whohohoah...

The US are really going to have their hands full dealing with Taliban ambushes and mines. Especially that road snaking through the village, oh I see so very many spots to sit with an RPG as you hear a vehicle drawing closer :razz:

On the other hand the Americans' air assets are going to even the playing field a little bit. Particularly now that they have FLIR.

Heheheee, this is going to be plenty of fun :-D

I guess they're asking because the new textures for the shovel didn't make 0.95 either. But oh my goodness this is a spectacular map. This coupled with hit and run tactics on US strongholds will be awesome.

As others have posted, the pictures reveal a very detailed enviroment which helps players live into the scenario of an insurgency game.

Another thing I noticed from the pictures was a rather high viewdistance.

But from what I remember being told by a more knowledgeable source than myself:

High detailed map =/= High viewdistance.

Looks great! I'm sure this will contribute to some very fine insurgency fights.

However, I think the roads seems a bit too 'clean' for this map.

very nice map. i like how there is lots of nothingness filled with water/fields. but the roads are high density with buildings as cover.

judging by the landbridge the real bridges are destructable atm? :-D

why isn't there any static rocks on the map :???: looks like it could really use some along the river or incline from fields/roads. any reason for not adding them?

I think most if not all bridges will be destructable due to CSB(Combat Support Bridges) being added. Which can be used to "repair" broken bridges.

Thanks =) It was quite horrible to work with buildings which are basicly stacks of 50-150 objects oO

Good question. Mainbases and that extra hesco base are made so that you dont want to camp in those bases to defend em, hesco walls and towers are supposed to be quite useless firing positions and trees are there to block the view out of the base as well as in to the base. Idea is that this would reduce baseraping as well as camping in the main instead of patrolling.

The extra hesco base is like second main, it has few spawnable vehicles (including IFV) but no spawnpoint, so players must build the spawnpoint themselves. Taliban cant go camp the secondary base because of combat area, but there is still ways to destroy the spawnpoin in there. The base is made so that no more than 0-4 ppl wants to defend it. Main purpose of this secondary base is to provide safe heaven to build firebase or regroup, because usually firebases doesnt last very long in insurgency maps.. will see how this works, if it doesnt work then server can run the "alt"-layer which doesnt have this secondary base =)

What do you mean your sick of them? there are only 3 maps that are currently held in afganistan Korengal, Archer and Lashkar and they are all completely diffrent maps, its not asif they are all based in a big valley surrounded by hills that you can climb they all have their own unique style :-?

I have a nitpicking question, you have some fords on the map, and the road texture stays the same when the road is above or under water.

IRL the vehicles driving trough river wouldnt left same nice trails as on ground. Its really minor, but maybe you could try to remove the road from the river stream, and leave there just ground texture.

Im not sure I managed to express myself :(

A lot of fighting is going on in and around Afghanistan in real life, so surely it's plain old logic to have it in a game trying to emulate real life combat? Sure it would be cool to have a map where you defend your own house, but unless you've been on the wacky-jacky I don't think there's a large army waiting on your doorstep is there?

Loving the map btw, will it be coop compatible or is it exclusively for mp? (I went catatonic when they removed Korengal from coop lol)

Just because this is a realism mod doesn't mean we have to have completely realistic maps with realistic scenarios. Are Israelis fighting Russians in Lebanon? No. Is this US fighting the Chinese and Russians on their own turf? No. Is there a faction called the MEC? No. Yet we still have these scenarios ingame because they are interesting. I never said I wanted a map based in my home town, however it would be interesting to have a Russian paratrooper and amphibious invasion on the United States.

Afghanistan maps are being milked dry and there is only so much you can do with them. They are really starting to look similar now that more and more of them are being made.

Kokan looks good, there are a few major problems I can foresee but I think it will be an interesting map to try out.

I never said I wanted a map based in my home town, however it would be interesting to have a Russian paratrooper and amphibious invasion on the United States.

You're in luck, I was considering an invasion of Seattle akin to the World in Conflict level "Spaceneedle"

Map has quite ok level FPS when compared to many other maps, but when you use scope, there might be FPS drop in some areas of the map because of alot of overgrowth fields, same as in yamalia but shouldnt be that bad in this map.

@Excavus any map is interesting when someone has spent nearly a year or two making it and I'm sure the Devs make sure that no two maps are that similar. So even if there were 20 different Afghan based maps they would all have significant differences making them unique and making them a blast to play.
