Silent Eagle


Main features:
- 4 x 4 km Woodland
- Heavy vehicles (all assets)
- US vs RUS
- Paratrooper spawn
- AAS random
- Abandoned airfield , Town, Tunnel complex , Rocket silo , Powerplant , etc...

This map was started about 2 years ago (former name: Airborne) for the German Forces community faction. Now that the map is finished but the German Forces are not, it will most likely make its appearance in PR v0.9. Once the German Forces get released, they will replace the US.

It is based somewhere in eastern Europe / Russia and offers wide open grassy landscapes mixed with dense forests and tarmac compounds. The assaulting team (US) will have a automatically rotating cargo plane to spawn on and drop their paratroopers.

Once an abandoned airfield is taken, heavy air support will spawn and provide ground troops and heavy vehicles with fire support while the russian team has the advantage of better established positions from the start.

nothing final decided here but you will see bombers , tanks, trucks , fighter jets , attack helos , transport helos , jeeps , apcs and AAs ... but in an assymetrical balance :)

Would have prefered China or the UK as the placeholder though, as they don't have many (played) heavy asset maps. Not that that will detract alot from what looks to be a very high quality map.

During making of the map, they had a downed Japanese zero static. Had to suggest the F-15. Map looks fantastic, Russian T-90's rolling down main street mmmmmm, sounds ooh soo right.

This map is incredible... it's what I've always dreamed of in PR. It looks like PR is not only leaving the old desert/jungle formula but also introducing some new and original gameplay mechanics which I can't wait to play. Great job, looking forward to more maps like this in the future :)

there are allready paratrooper kits with parachutes ingame, they are just unused atm.
another question, since this map will go to the german forces later, will they use only G36Ks, since the paratroopers

This is looking out to be a realy great map. I guess if the US dont get the airfield quickly they won't stand a chance. So i guess that air drop is gonna be the only means of spawning for the US in the beginning, Wich will put them at a great dissadvantage if the o.87beta changes come in place in 0.9 since they wont have any means to put up forward outposts. but i think this is gonna be a one heck of map :)

i sugjest a static, like a jet, like the cargo plane from specops to use as the spawnpoint. it will allow for rallying up and jumping as a squad, so you can do similtanious jumps with the squad, pulling ripcord in quick sucsession.

This looks so awesome, this is probably the best map I have seen in PR.
That village looks like it's gonna have some epic infantry combat in it, not to mention the rest of the map which looks absolutely great!

you know, i was always curious about the Russian Army as to wether they were a BLUFOR or OPFOR faction. They fought the Chechens like the British, but i guess the old saying "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" really does cut both ways.

I doubt this will work out. The auto rotating cargo plane seems to work fine so far. It shouldnt be the focus of the map anyway but just provide the US team with the initial advantage of mobility and "surprise".

Easy... select spawn , fly , enjoy your flight , press 9 , steer parachute to wherever you want :)

team 1 vs team 1... I'm pretty sure Rhino did not have russians vs GB on OSS because of this.

If the Cargo Plane is auto flying itself around the map... and is a moving object, then how will 6 people spawn and be able to walk around... then jump out? Won't there be collision problems? I assume by you saying...

...you mean you dont have to jump out of the plane automatically? Or Do you even jump out of the plane?

you dont jump you spawn in the air behind the plane. the plane is just an eye candy in a way.

and team 1 vs team 1... never has been a problem from what i can say.

About the paradrop spawn, is there going to be a way that squads can co-ordinate spawns by like spawning into the back of the plane, sorting out kits from a crate and then stepping out, or are we going to be waiting to press spawn button at the same time?

It needs testing i agree but for now there will be 2 cargo planes that you can spawn on, ie. some will have to wait until the spawn is available again. Its the SLs task to tell his squad where to guide the chute to and if everything goes well the squad can rally up quickly on ground. I thought about giving the plane or commander the abilty to drop crates but its undecided yet. Furthermore there is still one fix ground spawn available all the time where the vehicle convoy spawns that can provide crates. The paradrop will most likely disappear after some time and reappear after some time again.

I can't wait to see all the new players who don't know how the parachutes work properly try this map. I can tell there's going to be a few wasted tickets because of this. Really looking forward to 0.9... Especially since I just reformatted my hard drive and PR seems to be running great (punkbuster and voip isn't though).

- where you got these buildings from? Are then brand new? Looks like some of FH2 European houses!

the kitlayout depents of the map. so they can add parachuts to each spawnable class...

i actually forsaw this sort of comment because its is true in a way. But i have to say that i started this map before i knew of the OPK map that has similar sky settings and an airfield as well. and if you really know the maps then this is totally different :D

you say that you spawn behind the plane.. i guess this'll be hard syncing the jumps from multiple squadmembers...

no cause the plane is moving so there is always space to spawn and for sure you can steer your chute if you spawn some seconds later as your squadleader and for sure the squad should regroup on the ground like in reallife

Going to be a bloody ripper though, the graveyard and rural areas are excellent.

Question: Can the plane be shot down, forcing the US to fight from ground spawns? Or is it 'so high up' that AA can't get a lock?

Plane got removed due to several reasons.

You will still be able to spawn up in the air on a sort of moving invisible rallypoint.

I can only imagine the problems with it. Were they connected to BF2s collision detection? You could still make people spawn a few meters below the plane as if they had just jumped out of it in that case.

Makes sense, the plane isn't that important, after all. Maybe on a later release you can add it in, but its low priority. Still... I can see this map being exceptionally dynamic and cool.

Or is it a mobile spawn that moves around randomly?

The paratrooper thing is very interesting, looking forward to it. My 3 most looked forward maps are Silent Eagle, Gaza and Beirut.

First of map looks so great. Dark land under gray sky will be a new breath.

Paratrooper idea sounds cool and new though for sure some unexpected problems will occur. For example what if German team goes too bad and can't get any spawn points on the ground. Will Russians sing "Oh its raining man" while their helis or planes hunting paratroops? A possible new version of baseraping? Pararaping :D
)
So a good hard testing is a must I guess.

NE there is a small hill compound+ the russian tank convoy. SW is the US tank convoy.
Those two corners are protected by dome of death.

The abandoned airfield will be the base for the US team although it will remain capturable.
However US team has a dome of death protected area at their vehicle convoy in the southwest corner of the map.
