For the light reco chopper, African armies seem to use some old French Alouettes and some Gazelle choppers.

But the first one means a new model and its a rather outdated chopper. The second one will be use as well by the French forces, so not the best idea if they are going to fight each others...

To keep in touch with reality and our background, we are thinking to give them some Chinese choppers: like the Eurocopter Dauphin (the Chinese Z.9A) or the Eurocopter AS-350 Ecureuil (the Chinese WZ-11)

Some pictures of Dauphin and its Chinese copy in Africa:

But it appears that the AS-350 is in use in many African Air Forces. Watch out these pictures and Wikipedia:

The Eurocopter Ecureuil seems to be the best choice:

A perfect choice as BF2 armoured furry is using a copy of the Eurocopter AS-350. No need of a new model!!!

Lol the Chinese used to use it on Qwai and it is still on Quinling. MEC uses a AF littlebird as well.

I have to disagree with your statement about the outdated Alouette ! ;) They're going to use the T-55 anyway, talk about old rusty stuff !

And it seems there's only a rough dozen Ecureuil spreaded all over the continent :| That's scarce !

The Gazelle looks more appropriated IMO : the French Army variant is Recon only (with the Viviane sight, the Tigre takes care of ground attack nowadays) whereas the hypothetical ARF one would have rocket pods, woudn't it ?

As for the Z-9A, it'd be awesome if it was in-game ! :D

i guess the problem might be, if we can remove the wings without editing the model, since that is not allowed

Well, You can not compare a tank and a chopper. One aged differently from the other. It is more easy to maintain a tank T-55, to find spare parts and to upgrade it. An helicopter with an old technology is more expensive to maintain and above all we can not find new spare parts!
And to be honest, even if these French helicopters are good qualities, robust and can still perform their tasks well, they are outdated compared to new European helicopters like the AS-350...

You get about (estimation) 90 Alouette III, 50 Ecureuil and 25 Gazelle used in "Black" Africa. The Gazelle and Alouette are choppers from the 70's, they are really old. The Ecureuil is from the 90's to today. The Gazelle and Alouette were withdrawn from service in many other countries and others don't have enough money and spare parts for maintenance... It's less expensive to buy new choppers that maintain 40 years old choppers!!!

Also I would like to see the Gazelle or Alouette ingame, as it's true, they are still used a lot in Africa. But it means a new model and we don't have time to do it. But if someone here want to give a try, he is welcome ;)

Yes this wings on Dice model sucks! But we can't remove them... I hope we can at least remove the weapons...

I'm a fan of 'vintage' military equipment but I guess PR is set in the 'near' future (or so I believe...or was told or read). AS350 seems a very valid idea.

How about using a MBB Bo-105? OPK mod has one perhaps they will let you use it if you ask it via the right channels?

Their version is a Anti tank one but if you would equip it with machine guns you got something unique for your faction. :)
