While playing a game on Kashan Desert today, I was in need of immediate air support.

The scenario was, We (the U.S. Team) had just taken the South Bunker, and my squad (Infantry squad/6th squad) was assigned to capture the North Bunker. We ran into a full squad, but with the element of suprise, we quickly took them out with minor injuries. We had secured the north bunker area, capped it, and lived. I proceeded to call for Air transport out of the North Bunker as another infantry squad moved up from the South bunker to defend the North Bunker. As our air transport was landing, an enemy mobile AA piece shot it and blew it up. We figured out where is was, and asked for air support (via A-10). My exact words were,"Uhh..Can Squad 6 get some air support? we have a mobile AA vehicle...uhh...West of our position. Thanks." I then lazed the AA vehicle. No air-support. I asked again,"A-10, there is an enemy AA vehicle West of the North bunker Complex, at 280. Please Acknowledge." I re-lazed the AA; no air support. Then, an APC joined up with the AA vehicle. Now we have an AA vehicle and an APC shooting at my squad. We're trapped in the North bunker Area. Even worse, the Squad coming from the South bunker to help us was gunned down by the AA piece. Now I'm asking the A-10 (which is still up in the air, taking random pot-shots at infantry.) to take out the threat for a third time. no air support. To my--and my squad's suprise-- two enemy Main Battle Tanks had just joined in and were now firing at us.
So let's take a look at this: I am now dealing with One AA vehicle, One APC, and Two MBT's. My squad has nothing at our disposal, we used our HAT earlier, and we have no supply crates around us. It's all just 1 officer, 2 riflemen, 1 medic, 1 HAT (with no ammo), and 1 Automatic Rifleman. We are defenseless. We are taking a repeated pounding from the enemy. None of us are dying, but we are trapped inside the bunker now. Meanwhile, what is our air support doing? Flying circle around the Main Base. I'm starting to get a little bit frustrated now. I start spamming the text area about how we need air support. No air support. Then, about five minutes later; guess what happens? We get our support! But it's not what you'd expect. Our air support happened to be an A-10 hurdling to the ground, straight at the enemy armor! No guns firing, no bombs dropping; the pilot is on a suicide mission. He's flying straight at them and then.............he flies right over the armor. He misses his target!
There was a momentary cease-fire, as the armor crews took in what just happened. They realized the A-10 just tried to fly into them; shouted a few nasty words, then resumed firing at us. Eventually the tanks made their way into the Bunker Compound and destroyed my squad. We spawned in, this time we got two HAT guy's (one wasn't in our squad though), and flew off to the North bunker. Re-captured it, destroyed the tanks (in the time it took us to get back to the North bunker, the AA and APC was taken out by something.) Then five to ten minutes later, the round ended in favor of the U.S. Army. (199-0)

lol.

Really it isn't that safe to take out a AAV with a jet, thou can be done pretty easily with a 1km view distance thou isn't that realistic... But your pilot just sounded like he just wasn't a team player :p

lol, a F-35b would be FAR too fast for muttrah, was considering a Harrier on muttrah when it was in development but even that was too fast, and that's like 1/2 the speed of a F-35b (dont quote me on that, thou I know a JSF is much faster :p)

Air support in 0.85, Have you lost your mind?

Do you even have the slightest idea of how many things have to go right for a CAS mission to work in 0.85?

Not the best idea to take out a AAV with a jet. Still, the A-10 pilot probably is just a noob for not helping you out even after you called him in so much times.

Your air support probably never arrived because you called it in...saying uh... every 3 seconds is no good. You also failed to give an exact grid reference. People who fail to tell me where targets are really tick me off when im trying to do CAS.

I gave a good area of where the target was. I did fail to give specific coordinates, but I did give the pilot enough details to figure out where the armor was. The armor was out in the distance, I couldn't have accurately pin-pointed what grid coordinate the armor was in. It's not like I said,"Hey pilot, can you take out this armor?"

air support has gotten stupid lately, i've called in for air support so much and they never come. i even had all the enemy armor lased told my A-10 he didn't come even after i told where they were heading, numbers, each unit typed, and location on map.

Now i consider pilots in the planes to be retarded. because not one has ever listen to me or the other people on the team.

Yes, it would seem that every person who manages to get in the air without dying thinks they are great pilots.

I haven't flown in a while because every time i try get a jet a ub3r awsome vanilla pilot comes along and gets shot down because he thinks he can dodge missiles by pulling up. Ive given up on it , the wait isn't worth it. Though i do find it the most enjoyable aspect of the game when the ground units communicate properly with the pilots.

It works both ways really, its incredibly frustrating to get a CAs jet p, evade enemy jets only to hear complete silence, "takes out this aa now noob" or "lasing target now" with no location.

But for a "groundie" to fully understand how the pilot works and will make his decision they need to fly. Its not good enough to say AAV somewhere over there, I sure won´t go and look for it.

It is pretty frustrating when people lase targets without grid coordinates. Personally, I sometimes won't provide CAS without a proper grid coordinate even with a lased target unless I'm flying Blufor aircraft. BluFor aircraft is a lot easier to provide CAS since their bombs activate a lot sooner than the OpFor aircraft. It really depends on the pilot. Some are teamplayers, some are just retarded.

I cnt believe some people that take the jets, there just beyond a joke especially that idiot who took it, AA isnt a problem when you've got bombs XD all you have to do is get the right grid co'ord have your SL place a marker then you fly towards the marker from about 2000 feet then aim at the marker when your pretty much on top of it and release you bomb at 1500 then providing no one else has lased anything (enemy lasers included)
the bomb should free fall then get a lock and bye bye AA, also you didnt have to drop into the AA belt.

the spotter Should always provide Grid coordinates, when i'm in an attack aircraft i WILLNOT go for a target with out grids stated

totally agree with the Lazing with target coordinates, if this applies to attack choppers, me and my pilot always have to look everywhere around Muttrah city to find that laze only to find out that its pointing to a sniper on the mountain...so the people lazing have to put in an extra effort to type out the location of the laze to ensure effective results, same thing with CAS jets which does not have enough time to find that small circle/square in the middle of the city/desert.

im fed up of groundies not telling me where the lazy is, and then callin me a noob for not taking it out, really hurts deep when people call me a noob :(
but yer i dont see how they expect us to know where the lazer if they dont tell us :/

There something that doesn't add up. You said you weren't able to pin-point the exact location of that AAV but you still lazed it? Now i wonder what magic did one of the DEV add we were never told about :O (:P)

You probably also ignored/didn't notice air-control squad members (of the pilot) telling you to provide grid coordinates.

While it's true many pilots have no idea what they're doing, those ones almost never survive 5 minutes in the air, so in this case I'm kinda doubting that legitimacy. THIS (https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f141-aircraft-tactics/50907-mcluvs-guide-providing-efficient-air-support.html#post882960) is what the pilot should be doing. THIS (https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f143-squad-leader-tactics/50947-mcluvs-guide-requesting-air-support.html) is what you as a Squad leader should be doing. If either of you miss any steps, it puts a huge risk on the pilot, to the extent that in this case they may have even asked for specific coordinates, but decided not to risk a 20-minute-10-ticket asset on an unspecified target.
