Now before I start, I promised [R-DEV]duckhunt that I wouldn't take all the credit for this map so I'll do my best :p

[R-DEV]duckhunt who is now serving in Afghanistan with the Royal Marines started this map over a year ago and has been working on and off it though his Royal Marine training when ever he got the chance and before he got shipped off to Afghanistan he asked me if I would finish the map off for him for v0.85

So over the past few months, mostly in the last few weeks I've been adding the finishing touches to the maps, mainly fixing bugs, making one or 2 custom statics but most of my time, the last week and a bit I have spent lightmapping the map. The rest of the map has all been done by duckhunt thou :D

Apart from that too yellow looking main road it looks just perfect.

I like the fact that this very dense urban environment with many enterable buildings benefits the insurgents more than the coalition.

there are only 2 apcs,no tanks.and i think 1 bomb car is more than enough because there are rpgs and rkg's available.

anyways,love the map,good work duckhunt and rhino! cant wait .85 to come out.:-D

+ DEVs will probably balance the map by giving more pick-up kits for insurgents in 64pl layout.

LOL even if there were 2 MTB's they would be easy targets. There's no need for RPG's or IED's when a single molotov makes a Thanksgiving Day turkey out of the crew inside and being able to spawn with 2 standard kits that have molotovs is IMO just too easy.

With enough winding streets and the revamp in insurgency, Those bradleys will probably much more vulnerable in the city... IE, IED ambushes, RKGs, RPGs, etc...

The field looking also very good can we replace the field in basrah with this one? Because this one looking much better ;)

But one thing bugs me, its again an ins map :(

as stated on the first post, it says "2 x M2A2 (US Army support)" that is basically saying the US Army are providing support to the USMC assault like they did in r/l as both the USMC and the US Army where in Fallujah.

I am aware of that, but all those maps are old, except Tad Sae (which is never played and you can see the sides of the map), and I thought PR was moving for larger maps.


A 1k map for .85 PR.... that will be interesting... maybe that would be more appropriate

and that's a new map too :)

1km maps still have a place in PR and I do not see them going fully from PR since they offer good infantry combat etc, the large scale maps are more vehicle based the larger you get.

Nah, from what i've seen on pubs, for Insurgency 1km maps are most suitable. If its larger - the game becomes 'find me if you caaaaan!" rubbish.

Large, 4km maps are perfect for AAS with conventional armies. IMHO, ofc.

I'm really glad to see another 1 km insurgency map I think the size fits insurgency well especially since the city is the focal point of the map since there are not large fields surrounding it.

because both the USMC and US Army where invloved in the real Assault and securing of fallujah and they both worked together giving each other support etc, the M2A2s are there to show that the US Army is giving some support to the USMC's search for ammo caches ;)

Little backstory...

The US armed forces actually told the civilian populace beforehand that they would be coming through and that they should leave. The majority did and the mostly foreign insurgents set up camp in West Fallujah in order to combat the US in an almost sort of 'last stand' attempt. The USMC on the western end and the US Army on the eastern end swept from the north end of the city south to clear out the city.

Fallujah was once a main port city on the Euphrates but when Saddam put the highway network through Iraq it was largely overlooked. This made it become more of a 'slummy' type city overall and although it has larger buildings the economy there was dieing quickly.

The small highway separates the north and south sides of the city, the US waited until nightfall to cross into the southern side since there was very little cover. At one point the insurgents pinned down one platoon of Marines in a corner market, only to have the Marines blow their own door in one side of the shop with C4 and join up with the main body of their forces.

The far south end of the city is littered with suburban houses surrounded by walls which caused some difficulties in clearing out. From what I have read most of the US casualties occurred on the south end as both the terrain changed and the insurgents were preparing to become martyrs. Many of the buildings in this area were hit by Abrams rather then be cleared by infantry just to be safe.

Kudos to the mapmaker for this map and I hope it is as fun to play as it was to read about Marines going through this city.

So Korengal is like human intestines - much longer on the inside then it looks from the outside ?:razz: (the caves and all the "vertical" movement involved all that adds up)



The only possible concern (with smaller maps like F.West) would be the hideouts, luckily Rhino knows his staff (most of the time:twisted: :-)) so shouldn't be a problem.

Smaller maps should (hopefully) benefit the (insurgency) game play.
