These animations are great, but they seem a bit too slow. Can you speed them up to seem more natural for someone pulling out an UGL in an active warzone?

Aside from that, I have to say that 0.8 will kick that Insurgency mod off the Golden Spanner - great work!

thank you so much for posting this. i actually made a thread last night asking about the progress of the ugls. but i have a question i always thought the m16a4 with m203 looked like this:

Its just a cover on the foregrip that holds the m203 i think you can mount the m203 on the rails too.

The M16A4 has rails on the foregrip that had not existed on the M16A2....thus the need for a foregrip cover that supported the M203. With the M16A4, that cover is no longer needed.

Looking great. The grenadier kit was rather unused before, now I bet we'll be seeing them everywhere. :D They all look great, but the Marines and Army ones look best.

Very nice overall. Good work on the AG36, GP25, and the QBZ UGL.

Although after taking a closer look, you may want to refine the animation on the M203. If you look at the area circled in red you'll notice that the orientation of the wrist causes the soldiers clothing to clip or collide with the soldiers weapon and hand. This applies to both M16 and the M4A1, although I was unable to get a clearer image on the M16.

I suggest to see if you can orientate the hand and forearm so that the wrist is bent at a flatter or otherwise obtuse angle. This will reduce the appearance of the soldiers clothing to be clipping or colliding with the soldiers weapon and hand during animation and appear more natural.

I myself never really use Grenadier kits. I find them to work in odd ways as they have a habit of simply bouncing off of certain materials rather than exploding on impact. They also sometimes have an odd delay before they explode. Maybe that has been fixed for v0.8 aswell, who knows.

... Someone explain to me why I'm not a PR tester yet? :-P

They all look fantastic! The animation is top notch. Although it will probably mean more people using the grenadier kit. This is my most hated way to die and reminds me of vBF2 noob tubing. :( Despite this, looking forward to seeing them in v0.8.

Nice animations and all, but I am concerned if this is gonna make it harder to hit targets at very long ranges. As it stands now, The sight being in the middle of the screen affords the ability to shoot at high angle(45 degrees) and still see the ground. Having the sight picture on the bottom of the screen might make it harder to use it as a mortar, which I occasionally use it for, in place of artillery. I guess I'll know once .8 is released.

I dont know how this is gonna affect game play with the kits new found accuracy but one things for sure, with all these new toys and maps comin for 0.8 there is gonna be a newbie influx like never before. First month of release I suggest you dont play much otherwise youll hear "WTF!! Why am I getting a blurry screen!, Why cant I kill anything! these guns suck" you know the normal stuff.

Like z-trooper said the way you animate the camera along with the gun makes everything feel more realistic, I noticed that on the L85 animations too. Everything looks awesome but for some reason the militia hand looks flimsy to me. Does anyone else see that?

That's a negative on that. I specifically chose the hud texture to bear some resemblance to the leaf sight used on an M203.

As you can see the sight is graduated in 50m increments from 50m to 300m. The "1" on the texture in-game refers to 100m and the "2" on the texture refers to 200m. Firing grenades at targets at approximately 50m or less is extremely dangerous due to fragmentation. HE and HEDP rounds are said to arm between 14 and 27m. So really, having a marker for more or less range is quite unrealistic. Having an a little readout for the angle is pretty unrealistic too.

and i really like it!

I just have a problem when trying to shoot at very long ranges because when I lose sight of the ground I don't know what angle I'm shooting at, to solve this I have to stand next to something tall like a tree or lamp post to see guess what angle I'm shooting at and doing this frustrates me
because In real life I don't have to look where my gun is pointed so I would be able to see the angle of my launcher vs the ground


So instead of a numbered degree readout could you put a small display of an m203 launcher with a horizontal line down the middle awareness of the launcher position vs the ground.

that way I could hit something far away without standing next to a lamp post
the new animations look great!

also I notice that the suppression effect makes the grenade launcher overly devastating instead of firing back at me the squad I'm grenading run around because they can't see me at long range which makes my job too easy

And its also good that you have got the sights ON the weapon to fit "in"/match with the white sights on the screen (on most of the weapons though).. Though I noticed that on the QBZ-95 UGL, the sight on the weapon was far more down than the white sights - Maybe fix that (animation?) so it matches better? .. It is nice that the sight on the weapon is behind the white sight - It kinda make us using the "real" sight instead :P

Pretty accurate. If you aim correctly, the blast radius on the shell itself will always reach your target (let alone that the shell itself might!)

Making a texture is far simpler and quicker than making a 3d model. Especially when it is made using a trial and error approach. No doubt the texture will have to be re-done (or an entirely new system implemented) when the ballistics are updated.

There is also a problem with the texture for people using not using a 5:4 aspect ratio (like myself). BF2 doesn't seem to properly scale F.O.V between different aspect ratios so the texture won't properly work, especially at long range. For example in the screenshot below in 4:3, one should aim in level with the red arrows instead of at the range markings. Originally I made for an aspect ratio of 16:10 but when I realised that it didn't work in any other aspect ratio, I remade it for 5:4 which is probably far more common with everyone using 1280x1024 LCD monitors. I'm hoping that the upcoming BF2 patch will fix this problem.

Even if it doesn't, players can download a program called Widescreen Fixer. You tell it your aspect ratio and press the ; button once you're in BF2; it adjusts FoV to the correct view.

So long as you use version 1.32, which has been submitted to and approved by EvenBalance (so pb won't kick you for using it), it's fine.

Quite sure. I tested it again with both ironsights and scopes. I used some in-game objects to check if the F.O.V was changing. I'm using v1.32 of the widescreen fixer.

Suprises me, it appeared to be adjusting the FoV when I was tinkering with it last night.

Either way at risk of skating on the thin ice of the NDA, I've used the grenade launcher textures from the video in-game and they worked fine on a 5:4 monitor. The marked ranges of 50, 100, 150 and 200m all worked fine, with no pre-practice I was able to sling rounds to within a meter or two of an attack marker.

Might work less well at 16:10's FoV, but it's certainly okay at 5:4. I'd like to be able to check it on a 16:10 but I can't at the moment.

I would have to agree with a previous post about the animations feeling a bit slow. It doesn't take nearly that long to pop up the leaf sights, nor extract and insert another 40 mike-mike. I used one for four years, and I probably would have two rounds already off by the time the animation made it up into the shoulder!

Probably to give the Officer some kind of advantage over the regular soldier. The AK101 in PR is in many ways superior to the AK47. Kinda weird that a militia force fighting in the Caucasus are using weapons firing NATO-ammo, though.

Yay :D Those new animations, specially those camera affects, are surelly going to add a great realism effect to PR :mrgreen: That or at least it will help to add more adredaline to the combat enviroment.
Hopefully the remaining gear and stuff used in PR will get similar effects. 8)

Very nice job with both the pdws and UGLs.

it seems like the type95 carbine was picked up and filmed from us army soldier's perspective, hence the digital pattern - its the exact same pattern as seen in the m4 test.

I find myself asking one thing though, with the perspective changed on these weapons so you're looking down the sight more, why have we been given a HUD like crosshair? It seems to me (though would be better if the POV was a bit lower) that the grenadiers could be aimed using their iron sights instead of another point n click bomb dropping thing

Just noticed that the user pulls out the grenade launcher like if it was slung or holstered even when the weapon is already shouldered. Why dont you just do what EA/DICE did and just start the animation from the idle position of the normal rifle slot and work from there? Sure it only works one way but it looks a lot smoother than pulling out the entire weapon from a holstered position every time you flip between your gear.
