We are doing some changes to the Special Operations kit that will help players do their job of recon, ambush and sabotage a lot better. Here's a list of the changes:

Silenced Pistols 3+1 mags - stealth is your best friend when alone and behind enemy lines.
SLAMs 60s timer x4 - more SLAMs and also more time to plant them and get out.
C4 remote detonated - flashbangs are out and one pack of C4 is in to deal with the bigger assets.
Field dressings x3 - you have to count mostly on yourself when wounded. This will help you stay alive.
GLTD (SOFLAM) - any player will be able to send the LASER TARGET radio message, no matter if he's a Squad Leader or Squad Member.
That's it. We hope these changes will make them better at their job.

Hmm.... interesting. Wouldnt have thought you'd remove the bangs, and of course wouldnt have thought you'd add parachutes again, i'm really surprised about that part. Let's see how it works.

Hmm sounds pretty 1337, but notice they don't have a carbine/SMG. So I wouldn't expect a lot of kills. But sounds stealthy and definitely better.

Yay, this will go a long way towards making this kit usable as a sabotage kit, love the 4 slams idea, now I can take out 2 apc's instead of 1 1/2. And a C4? Fantastic.

Personally I would have gone for a grappling hook over a parachute... Is it possible to do what you do with the engy kit? Grappling hook on maps without transport birds and parachute on maps with?

halo dropping squads is going to be a huge pain in the ass since there are only 2 spec ops kits per side. :D

As for who ever mentioned that they should have body armor, well they have. At least that's what I've been told. :D

There could only be two guys getting halo dropped into out of the whole team, as opposed to a whole squad.

And before you go on about getting a pilot kit (3rd person) to set a rally point, the SL has to be an Officer, and therefore, no RP's behind enemy lines.

Two questions.

1. Parachute, will it be single use? or you can use it all the time like in vanilla?

2. Can you make two different versions of Spec Ops, like you did with the engineers? First type with a grappling hook (without the parachute) for some urban maps, and the second type with parachute (without the grappling hook) for any other maps? (this question may sounds like quite stupid but I'm just curious about the possibility).

:roll:, every kit has body armor in 0.7. You keep the armor of the kit you spawn as regardless of what kit you request.

Don't think we can limit it, but I doubt you'll see players using it more than once since you have to be a few hundred meters in the air for it to work.

I don't get it. You don't want the kit to be used as a regular rifleman. That's fine but why are you giving the spec ops so much ammo if the carbine is meant to be used in self defense only? Give it 3+1 it's more than enough IMO.

And if the spec ops kits is supposed to be special then make it look like it especially the US one b/c right now it looks like a baby sitter (other factions are quite fine). IIRC the Navy Seal faction uses the same player models as USMC in vBF2/PR. Why not just give the USMC/US Army spec ops a Navy Seal spec ops kit geometry? I'm sure it would work fine.

It sounds like a turnover from what we have discussed about SF kits...

I can understand the parachute now, because you have a way to limit its use. But 4 slams and a C4 package sounds like mr. ├╝ber to me, not to mention the 3 field dressings...

But I suppose you know what you are doing.

Nice things. It will be good if all specops should be in the same squad and the specops kit locked to a specific squad. currently in PR specops are kind of isolate rambos or acting in basic squads, i dont think it s the case in reality. In this case, why dont give them a rally :smile:. TO simplify , a squad specops which can use halo drop.

Wow, im super excited.

Is it wrong of me to even contemplate, if the kits are not in use halfway through a round, to request it to use alongside my squad hunting caches/assets? The slams and c4 will be a great asset to the squad with maybe one engineer, the Carbine will help out a tad in some areas, and the bandages will help out the squad slightly too in case the medic is busy/not in your fireteam.

I dont even see that as unrealistic as I imagine special forces alongside soldiers and using their knowledge to work with the team... right? Maybe? I think so... anyway, ill be doing it if I see the kits are not in use :)

Can i suggest a silenced rifle whit a normal pistol ? Like give M4A1 whit QD suppressor to US ( etc etc for all other faction ) I know some people would say it will be "1337 uber leet"... well in Reality, S.F. use suppressed weapons from a wind range...

Real life spec-ops soldiers carry MUCH more ammo then your regular infantrymen soldier, especially if thier going behind enemy lines to for a specific objective (which is how the spec ops kits [I]should[I] be used and is used like that in some cases that Ive seen in PR)

I'm liking these kit changes. The Spec Ops kit really needed a better edge for it's intended role on the battlefield. We'll see how this works out in the next version.

Actually, reading the original post for the second time, I'm not usre i will ever use parachutes... too obvious (i.e. all the enmy see you flying down to/ close to their main..., i prefer to get quick drop by littlebird or go on foot.

And why remove flash :(

Thats why you get dropped of far away from the main, dropped off to go on foot. I find it more realistic that way :)

like once on jabal, I got dropped off as far northwest of the MEC main as possible. This ended up being B1 on the map, I then walked there and the enemy didn't have a clue.

Well now at least you can do whole squad drops without needing a pilot. Spec ops drops out of helo first, deploys parachute, once on the ground the SL, 2 medics and 2 misc drop out... spec ops grabs medic kit, revives other medic and/or whole squad. Rally point behind enemy lines :D

Even if it didn't you could just have 3 pilots jump and 1 officer suicide (possible with exchanging kits when he requested it) set a rally and your good to go.

It's good, seeing some silenced pistols returning (i hope the velocity effects of the silencer has been revised and made accurate) but personally i think it would have been good to keep the flashbang, giving you the ability to "go-noisy". Claymores instead of C4 would have been better too, commonly used by specops units for perimeter work and breaking up a pursuit during a withdrawl from an objective.

Also, how on earth are we going to stop frankly n00bs using it, as i think it should be made proportionately less attractive to increase the use of the kit as a recon, observation and designation kit?

Considering virtually every major user of the P90, including several in the middle east, purchased them for offensive use by their special forces units...

Ok, just thought of a brilliant idea...
Currently you can only Left Click once in the T menu, by L-Clicking "Request Kit"... but is it possible to Left Click for a second time afterwards? L-Clicking "Spec Ops" for example?

If this can be done, how about allowing the player to choose from different Spec Op loadouts?

i.e. there could be 2 different SF Loadouts, first loadout with grapple (without flash) and vice versa...

IMHO These weapons would make the MEC stand out a lot more than the stuff we have now. Insurgents with AKs look good, but a MEC army would use mainly Middle Eastern manufactured weapons to cut down shipping costs and also because they are already there for use. Most of them are from Israel, but as you can see I did find some non Israel made weapons that would also be great to have in game.

And by the way, the G3 is being produced in the Middle East by license.

imo it's not about if there are weapons made in the middle east, its about if they are being used. Sure they are awesome weapons, but the MEC military just doesnt use the iirc.

Back to the topic, change the name of the Spec Ops kit before you change the loadout. The name 'Special Operations' is only a noob magnet - same with the Sniper kit.

is it possible to have those kit names Army specific

for USMC call it Rangers or equivalent (no idea what SpecOp the USMC has)
Or with the Brits call it SAS operative
Or at least something that sounds boring enough to not have the n00b armanda jump on it!:evil:

You should rename the spec ops kit to a seals kit, the usmc work really close to the navy so it might work. =/

fine except i don't think that they are only 'saboteurs' they are abit more multi role, therefore they are special, you are always going to have the ego thing, since they have been called special forces once they are always going to be viewed as such anyway, but anyway your mod, just my 5 cents.
