Another classic map has been updated for v1.4. This time it's Gaza (Beach).

First introduced in v0.9 featuring then new Israeli Defense Forces faction and their opposition faction Hamas, Gaza has probably been the definition of close quarters hell in Project Reality.

The new Gaza has been in works since 2011 (https://www.realitymod.com/forum/blogs/9317/b297-sup-idf.html) but remained on hold most of its time due to my absence. I'm proud to announce that after a year of work I've completed it and it will replace the current Gaza in v1.3.9 with v1.4 release.

It differs from old Gaza a lot; the main bases have been switched around, new road system, new areas in general although some portions of the city remained unchanged, see if you can spot them. ;)

A special addition to this map relates to the building commonly known as the "T-shape". Walls now block the staircase from outer view, making it slightly harder to hold the building by camping the staircase. Not all T-shapes on the map feature this, but the ones that matter do. ;)

As for gamemodes, the map features the usual Insurgency and AAS along with Skirmish and of course Co-Op support.

Insurgency features over 600 different cache positions with none near the map edges for gameplay purposes.

Devs are credit to team, looks dang nice, and hopefully the city will be more traversable by vehicles now instead of getting stuck in every ditch in the road and then not being able to flee because you're basically stuck.

Can you explain how this even makes sense? Are you implying that you hand placed over 600 spawn locations or you did it with instancing? How do you fit 600 locations on a map this small? Are you counting moving the cache two feet as a separate location? Sounds like you're over-selling the cache locations. Sorry.

Caches on all maps are placed manually. One of the joys of making insurgency layers.
It's also not at all easy to open the map files on release and do an easy line count. But no, rather assume him to be lying...

Our maps contain often over 5000 hand placed objects. A few caches won't make a difference to a decent mapper.

Al Basrah set the bar many years ago, I think it had even more than 600 iirc

Yes. Just like I hand placed the 2200 static objects and other things.

I like the new harbor.

I hope there will be more navmeshed interiors as the current Gaza and yes, when you cover all rooms of T-shape buildings with ammocaches than its easy to reach this number. I ask me how high would the number when you place ammocaches on muttrah city.

The screenshot of the nodes was unclear. Regardless, the number of cache nodes has been increased by 300% so that is obvious that there's been a significant improvement.

I wasn't trying to be rude or say you didn't do a good job, I was just attempting to state that 600 seems ridiculous.

The map looks great.

Edit: maybe some random bricks and stuff on the ground just as clutter (like in parts of Sbeneh outskirts) ;p

Edit2: LAMP POSTS I'm pretty sure they'd have lamp posts on the streets! :P Also those white lines on the street that help organize traffic and mark where pedestrians should cross the street.

so, what should i do, my fiends, ahem, i mean friends-should i WAIT "patiently" for PR version 1.4.0.0 OR should i download and play battlefield 2142?

I'm open to suggestions and my net connection is limited, so i can ONLY do 1- either dl pr 1.4 when or IF it comes out or just dl bf2142 (same size as pr due to the fact that 2142 is now abandon ware lol)

so, what shall it be?

Sbeneh seems like it would be good if you need some ideas. However, I don't think you need to over do it... there's other things that need to be done besides this map.

What's stopping HAMAS taking the SPG techie at start of round to camp enemy main?...Clear line of sight into exit of main there and judging by the speed of the techie they can camp the exit before the APC gets out of the main.

This map looks good and has a lot of gameplay adjustments that were needed.

This map has a lot of rooftops and sniper nest that are perfect for the special ops squads and advanced scout squads to climb on and spot.

My suggestion is to add a small IDF helicopter in the mix perhaps since the IDF use the Blackhawk as their workhorse which is a US helicopter then you could add a littlebird MH-6 to the map also a USA helicopter. With the pilot and 5 spare seats it would be an excellent asset to put to use on this rooftop rich map.


MH-6 or another Variant.
