We are proud to announce that we are getting rid of another BF2 relic: The BF2 parachute.

For its replacement the more authentic parachute made by [R-CON]lucky.BOY will be added. It was originally made for PR:WW2, but since those types of parachutes are still used it will fit modern PR just fine. No worries, PR:WW2 will benefit from it as well ;)

The new parachute will now also draw for a way bigger distance allowing you to spot and engage paratroopers more easily. To add to the parachuting experience [R-DEV]KaB created new 3rd person animations.

As you can see the soldier is now holding the strings of the parachute instead of his rifle. This also means you will no longer be able to shoot while hanging in the air.

In addition to this new way of falling to the ground, we also changed the way you are going to deploy as a paratrooper at the beginning of the round.
Instead of having the parachute spawnpoints/planes circle the battlefield, they will now fly straight lines between two points. The green icons mark the beginning of the drop zone and the red ones the end. The planes will start as soon as the briefing time ends.

(wait until gif file is fully loaded as speed might be incorrect otherwise)

Depending on the map the planes might make multiple passes before the drop zone is declared as too hot and no more troops going to be dropped.

P.S. Parachute will still open by pressing "9", do it soon or end as a statistic ;)

Nice! I always was confused by the method before, this will be sweet.

Afaik CTRifle did this texture, but i saw you made texture for the original WW2 one. I ll just list you both :)

1.0 -> 1.1 about 6 months
1.1-> 1.2 about 5 months
1.2->1.3 about 1 year (little content, HEAVY bug fixing while other content continues to be developed )
1.3 -> 1.3.5 4 months and counting (although REALLY won't be long now)
1.3.5 -> v1.4 ?

What makes you think you have to wait another year? :)

I really like that kind of parachute, especially when thinking about paradrops or pilots ejecting.

I just wondered about the following info:

Wouldnt it be more realistic for these parachute to open automatically? as far i know paradrops parachutes are activated by a line and ejection seats have an activator, i actually dont really know how that works.
Is something like that planned ?

So you mean its hardcoded that you need to open the parachute manually?

Wouldn't it be much cooler to run out the back of a transport plane like the Osprey and deploy? Probably a lot of work but food for thought.

Not possible in most engines. Novalogic had most of their engines allow players do that, EVEN on online function, with little to no lag, wich i think its mind blowing. ArmA mods and scripts barely manage to do something similar.

We actually had that for PR:WW2 where you could jump out of the C47's :D Worked quite well tbh. But it's a lot of work to set it up.

Wow having a feature like that would be great for squads wanting to deploy behind enemy lines etc. I guess you Devs have enough on your minds for now, and btw the updates are great. No complaints from me.

Diffuse, there is a normal but I added some nice shadows to make it pop a bit

Its mainly a normal map baked from a high poly model that lucky.BOY made along with the low poly model.
