Hello everyone!

In this Highlight we would like to show you the rework of Kashan Desert. I would like to share my thoughts why I decided to remake Kashan by giving it a new breeze.

Kashan Desert was the first 4km map to be featured in Project Reality. It became an instant classic. Loved and hated by many, today it lacks certain qualities that have been introduced into more recent maps.

Terrain morphing was a big problem on the old Kashan Desert. Now the terrain has gone trough a smoothing process and it will be much easier to navigate with vehicles and you also have more places to hide in due to the added natural erosion in the heightmap. The bunker-area went trough a change as well with more cover for infantry from the mountainous area and the heavy assets surrounding them. the HESCO-bariers on the sides have been replaced with the L-variant so you wont be able to look into it from the outside anymore. The most dramatic change was done to North Village, it expanded into a small town now giving the infantry a much better chance to defend the flag there. The Airbases have also been totally redone using the new airbase system (https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f196-pr-highlights/104099-new-airbase-system-camp-bastion-airbase.html) with a much more realistic layout from before.

We also have made the Canadian vehicle textures look more authentic by making them dirty with desert sand. This way they will fit in more with the Kashan terrain.

The original Kashan Desert was created by duckhunt. The rework is by [R-CON]potatochan. The airbase model was made by [R-DEV]Rhino. The Canadian vehicle texture edits were done by [R-CON]CTRifle.

The new village looks pretty good. Can't wait to fight in it :D

I really like the new airbase too; it has much better layout.

Looks cool!!!

I think having a village in the more northern side of the map (like D4 or something) would be cool as well. Or even a little military camp.

But the new village looks great. Hopefully it comes into play more.

It could really do with another layer of buildings, and some more walls and ditches, maybe even a small mosque, if thats possible. sure, it needed a facelift, but most of all it needed a gameplay tuning. any change in assets?

I like it even though I am afraid that it will look very much like Khamisiyah. I hope it still remains it's Kashan feeling.

SW village stays like it is ... for now :o regarding the town while I agree you gotta be really picky with the small statics on 1 km view distance please note map is still Work in Progress.

khamisiyah is the spiritual successor to kashan desert while perhaps i took 1 or 2 ideas from it is still Kashan.

Definitely, change is most welcomed but looks very unnatural in comparison to the current vers. Needs more foxholes, rocks & ditches & small villages or houses for infantry to take cover & be able to make their way across the map in fair amount of cover from those multiple heavy assets. Oh yes & bot way points for coop pleeeeeassss ! :) , Can't wait for the final outcome of this map, Keep up the good job as always, respect to ya!

If you look at Steel viper, i have placed walls or buildings on the outskirts of the towns so that i can detail the centre parts without having to be afraid of them not drawing correctly at a distance, besides, its not like Kashan is having a FPS problem is it ;)

Fucking awesome m8! Keep it up! Might need a few tweaks like mentioned above. Maybe give SW village some ditches or trenches like it is surrounded. It is in the middle of a valley so it wouldn't be that weird to have some fortified stuff in it to fight of attackers.

Love your work and I also like potatos!

I have an idea concerning the bridge in the NW portion of the map. Instead of "just" having it there, why not create a canyon that runs all the way to the northern edge of the map with enough steepness to deny the movement of tanks and APCs? This way it control over the bridge could become another point of interest for both teams as flanking maneuvers in the northern part of the map are made more difficult. This would also make the outpost area west of it more important for MEC to fortify.

One light AH with ATGM, and onther one with MGs and/or rockets(20 minutes delay, respawn).
One IFV(15 minutes respawn).

Or will it still be for alt layer only?

EDIT: One little nitpick, dunno if it can be changed but the runways should be labeled "18" or the runway looking South and "36" for the one looking North

This is great news as Kashan Desert is a classic to many.

That said, I would also like to see bigger/ denser North and South village but would instantly trade all that for 20mins heavy asset spawn delay as it was in ?0.97 that required far superior planning of fobs and defences rather than rely on a single squad to do well, which in my experience happened to usually be the armor squad.

Looking forward seeing as this develops :thumbsup:

EDIT: Nevermind, found out Canada doesn't have any attack helicopters, so I guess the US Apache layer will stay

_O_ other points of battle or interesting flags could be added , i am starting to get tired of the eternal battle south vs north bunker... after a few years in . Like other maps have a different start layout, and the two teams can clash against each other on different flags.

You could make a whole new map instead of experimenting with new flag layouts. Believe it or not there are people that like the classical kashan thus it gameplay wise it has been kept mostly original but improved locations where I saw issues with. Let's play it first shall we? You can post feedback on it afterwards and i'm still open to work on it for 1.4

Tried the "new" Kashan a couple of times and it seems the BOTS are getting caught up on the fence at the Insurgent base and self destructing.
Capping the first four flags is simple, as there is no BOT resistance because they are all congregating at their base and dying on the fence.
It can't be just me, as the map I just vacated is having the same problem.
I feel it needs investigation and rectification.

COOP layers are disabled for a reason. They aren't supposed to be played. This will be fixed in next version with a new AI map.

Bring back the terrain of old kashan, that smoothing just made it even more impossible for infantry outside of bunkers, if it wasn't hard enough before. Getting rid of the plateau on the center hill and other area that allowed you to build FOBs in a low dip protected from more than one direction was a mistake.
