View Full Version : Faction Project Normandy Update

AfterDune

[R-COM]Arc_Shielder (http://www.realitymod.com/forum/members/48613.html) has an announcement for you:

Project Normandy is proud to announce the change of name to Project Reality: World War II.

What started as simple proof of concept based on D Day, soon evolved to a team that is working to expand where the previous release was left.

Time passes by fast, but it's worth remembering the origins that took us where we are now. If it wasn't for AfterDune, and later Pvt.Heureux and rodrigoma, by 0.98, the WWII dream wouldn't be possible within the realistically immersive world of PR.

PR:WWII signifies the transition to a higher ambition of taking the minimod up to PR standards. With the help of new team members custom content (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3917951/PRWWII_WehrmachtATscreen.png) is being made as well as new models (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3917951/PRWWII_Tankscreen.png) that were generously provided by other mods in order to make PR:WWII an unforgettable experience.

Obviously, the change of name makes it possible to include new fronts. We don't want to restrict the minimod to a single campaign when the resources available grant us the opportunity to expand to other fronts without, of course, losing notion of our main goals. Fronts like the Pacific (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3917951/PRWWII_Pacificscreen.png) or the Eastern Front (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3917951/PRWII_EasternFrontscreen.png) are growing but will only be available to the public once they've met the necessary requirements for a proper release; that either can be in the next release or some time from then.

We are looking for fairly skilled members to our team even if just to undertake a community task. The more people involved, the faster we will be able to provide a wide range of WWII conflicts. If you're interested, please send a private message to [R-COM]Arc_Shielder (http://www.realitymod.com/forum/members/48613.html).

Thanks to all of those who support our development. Updates will come soon.

Cheers, the PR:WWII team.

It's not hard to research and is part of the history of almost every country in the world, different from this Afghan thing that people seem to like so much lately.

The difference with regular PR is that new factions, weapons, vehicles, and maps keep being added that we haven't played or seen before and it slowly progresses into the future, yet the WW2 mod and other WW2 games keep revisiting the same places and points in time with the same weapons, same guns, vehicles, etc, that have already been used in literally hundreds of other games. Why should we keep putting resources toward a WW2 mod that's just going to go to the same places we've already been and use the same assets? It's illogical, and I think more resources should be dedicated to the main mod and the Arma3 mod instead of making more factions or "fronts" and other crap for an absurdly overplayed genre.

richyrich45, what resources are you personally putting into this minimod? I and numerous other community members, as well as AD, are putting our free time into this so that we can play it together. I am sorry if you feel offended by this.

Why do we do this? For the same reason PR itself is being made. You said there is hundreds of WW2 games. The same is the case with modern era wargames. But point us to one game that plays exactly the same as PR (or PR:WW2). I just havent found anything like this yet, that is why I have to try and make me one :D

Arc_Shielder
2013-10-15, 22:54
We do this because we want to have the PR core gameplay in a WWII setting. You can't find this anywhere else like lucky.boy very well stated.

It's strange how other modern warfare games don't itch you as much. Some people like WWII games, others don't. Leave it at that.

Same could be said about PR:V then. The thing here is that we have the occasion of putting PR's awesome gameplay in a WW2 setting.

Yeah you don't have to play it if you don't want so be quiet. These people are seperate to the core PR:BF2/ARMA team, if they wanted to work on core bf2/arma III they would, but they don't.

I just can't wait for this.

The whole experience in PR:WW2 is something completely different and unique (just ironsights, the general feeling of playing a soldier in the WW2 era, the large scale assaults/defenses etc.) and with the new effects and sounds it will be just epic.

I hate to say that, but PR 1.0 without Normandy/WW2 is a bit incomplete. After playing a normal round of PR 1.0, i often feel the urge of playing WW2, but then realize it isn't there yet :(

It needs to come out naow :razz:

Yeah don't worry guys, several team members are busting ass to get this done.

Lucky is making models, going through other models making sure they are up to standard (quite a few are missing lods or have bad lods, so he has to redo them) touching up community models etc.

Arc is mapping, managing the team, constantly looking for content and new team members, bumping afk members, and making sure I work.

AD is doing his coding thing a a few things, team management plus a few other projects that will be shown off when the time is right.

The update wont be for awhile still, but when it comes, it will be a big overhaul, and well worth the patience.

Is it possible to do the entire beach, not just Omaha but Juno, Gold, Utah, and Sword?

AfterDune
2013-11-05, 17:35
Juno = Canada, UK
Gold = UK
Sword = UK

PR:WW2 doesn't feature Canada or the UK, so those aren't going to happen. Utah isn't in the planning either, only Omaha.

LITOralis.nMd
2013-11-06, 20:31
Utah would require the inland battles of the 101st Airborne Division and the 82nd Airborne Division, there wasn't really any fighting of note with the landing force.

http://www.warchronicle.com/dday/utah/plan.jpg
The south flank would be the only option for a PR map, and it would not be incredibly interesting.
The map would be based on US paratroopers randomly dropping out of the sky when you click the spawn button .

I don't think anyone did when they started, besides you don't really need to know anything about the engine if you can model in 3d's max 9, and then hand it over to a skilled exporter.

I started about a year ago learning about bf2 modding, and have been doing bits and pieces once in a while when I had the time. The hardest part was to learn modeling since I didn't know that either, but I also wanted to learn to export and test the model in-game but it has been a lot easier than I first thought.

With some patience and free time to spare its good practice to model something even for an old game as BF2. Anyone can do it really.

this game is no longer a mod but a work of art. PR 1.0 , nam, and when its ready
ww2 are better than any other game to date. A perfect example of a desire to create
something good, with attention to detail as opposed to making something for money.

I wished people would stop asking for the release date and for it to be released already. I can't imagine how annoying this must become if you are part of the team working on PR:WW2. I understand people are excited but let them work at their own pace when they are free from real life commitments. I have no doubt they are working hard and will release it when it is ready to be released and attempting to rush it wont work.

I dont know, still doesnt hurt to see that people are interested in what we are doing, and if we find it annoying, we can always just ingore such people ;-)

However, you guys should view this more as a community faction of sorts, with regards to how long it might take to release this as part of main mod. You dont go to say Norwegian forces and spam release requests on their forum, i see no need to do such thing here.
