Welcome to the first episode of Project Reality's new "Devcast". Devcast are very similar to podcast, but instead of just audio, they feature videos with commentary from PR Developers giving you a direct insight into the development of our game modifications.

Devcast #1 is all about the weapons, sounds and animations in the highly anticipated upcoming Project Reality: BF2 v1.0 release. PR:BF2 is a game modification for the retail online multiplayer PC game Battlefield 2. We will be covering many other changes and features in v1.0 in upcoming episodes.

Has the range of seeing your teammates name-tags been reduced? When you're looking at the guy with the PKM firing at the T-shaped you don't see the friendlies' tags as they're moving up the stairs; would you not have been able to see that in the current version of PR?

The thought of you removing them completely struck me, but considering you can clearly see the tags in the last clip that's out of the question, unless it has something to do with the layer etc.

Thats right, but for me is the action factor a liddl bit to high even in this version. Running around and get prone and spray is way to mutch effectiv. For my opinion someon who is in a position for a longer time, should get a major advantage in a firefight(to negate the momentum of attacking surprise). And thats in the moment i think to 50% given (varies in guns and maplayouts[city, forrest]).

So if the deviation(lower)/centration(quicker) gets changed to in the wrong direciton, this action factor will be increased to a point where moving carefully is not the best choice for the player. Thats what i mean.

And if you can spawn directly in the near on a long term rallypoint or a FOB (with the information from your killer), you will be so quick back in action that the carefully moving oponend that killed you has no chance, or time to change position. And you can gun him easely out, with that information.

So the oponend that killes you need to move as quickly like you to a nother position. That makes the gameplay like in all other action shooters. Spawning dieing spawning running spreading. And that destroyes or make it not possible in big scale (from 4+ players), for tacticly movement and real military formations. And thats in my opinion a fact (try it in BF3 or a other shooter, its not possible and not effectiv, its contra productiv).

So changing on this settings have a major impact on the whole gameplay. I hope i could explain my point of view here, with this view sentences. Thanks for reading.

I got the refs of it, but no, it hasn't been developed since I only had time for the comp m4 in the first go, and the backup foldup irons are not the same depending on the nation. I know the norwegian army uses the backup sights and the comp m4 together at all times.

Just a little suggestion that came to my mind at the end of the video, can you put distances (50,100,150m etc..) in the firing range, so we can train to guess distances as Grenadiers. Please.

Other than that, Awesome job PR Dev team, keep it up !

Well, when I was in the army we were just told to take the irons of and place them in the pistol grip, where there is room for them, and we just about can't get them out without a multi tool. Guessing that if we went out in a real conflict we would keep them on at all times though. That is despite their nasty habit of just falling of. :p

Friends I am new to this forum & I want to tell you that i found this forum very interesting & because it is all about new types of internet games..I have played many internet games & i love playing them..I think they sharpen our mind..But hadnt played a game like this..So I want to what sort of game is this & how should I start playing it???

Please accept me as team member & get me updated for funny things like this..I think their are a lot of things to worry about so we must take out some time to relax in our daily life.. & for me relaxing means games...:lol::grin:

First of all - this is Battlefield 2 mod, so requires BF 2 to install it.
Secondly - this is teamwork oriented game where people relies on each other. Loners die pretty quickly because of lack of knowledge. This game is fun and requires seriousness as well because asshats and retards are not welcome at all. And thirdly - follow points posted below:

Just join server - join INF squad, on PRTA and NEW there is usually such squad.

Listen to what SL is saying, don't be a Rambo (they most of the time die because are alone).

Be patient, choose when its good to kill enemy or not.

Also - if you see something that you can't kill it - AVOID IT, don't look at it, hide, run away.

Watch your steps and where you drive - friendly mines kill you as well.

If you are in contact - try as much as possible to suppress the enemy so he don't get advantage in firefight.

Watch your flanks, because a lot of people die because of tunnel vision.

And most importantly - READ the manual It comes with installation and contains all information about game mechanics. Those who don't read it and are new - are nearly useless, because SL does not have time to teach in the middle of firefight.

I think if their doing Devcasts its just a nice teaser for us all to tie us over for an actual release I think early next year in Q1 sometime. I am going for Feb!

Also did anyone else notice that it looks like you when you deploy the new GPMGs on walls/top of that tank it look considerably more stablised/accurate than what currently happens at the moment when you enter deployed mode? kind of more like BF3 or maybe it just looks that way I am not sure...

Your English is hardly readable and hence it's difficult to make any specific questions out of it. Even with knowledge of the German language I find it difficult to make out what you mean exactly. Though not really a problem and not something you can help, seeing how this is not your first language, it makes it rather hard answering to it and thus explains the lack thereof yet.

If I understand correctly you're asking:
1. If there'll be more French and/or German maps and tank in the upcoming update. The French forces have been said to feature in v1.0 and they're bound to have maps and the odd vehicle then. Nothing has been said about the Germans yet.
2. Whether the upcoming update will be the last and whether the devs liked modding bf2 again. 1.0 is just a number to the devs, in theory this means as long as there are people willing to contribute and people willing to play pr will continue to be developed. Also PR:Arma2 has a different devteam though I've understood there is some overlap.

If these are not answers to your questions you might want to consider asking someone in your vicinity or perhaps a German communitymember to help translate

Even tho that would be a nice present, I'm sure they have other things planned for their christmas than deal with the release. Plus I doubt that many of us will be really available to play PR on Christmas anyway, at least I have other plans than spending hours on the computer that day, and I hope most of you do too. :)

It looks promising anyway, can't wait to get my hands on that M14 EBR!!!

I don't think that this is even Ramiel... I think it's a Mogadishu version of the Ramiel map. I just have this "gut feeling" that they made a Somalia map. Ramiel was originally intended to be a Somalia map anyways (I think :P).

Can't wait for this i'm so excited. Thank god they are changing deviation it was the only reason i rarely played after the 0.75...Hopefully they use 0.75 settings for deviation with some enhancements as it was really the best of both worlds - realism (pr0.5) and firefight lenght (pr0.97).
And where are the fastropes?!!! :D

The little things in the game many people dont care about, but i fell in love with pr the first time i played it (pr0.3) because of a really small realistic detail - no muzzle flash. so i have a few suggestions if thats ok:

1 -I don't know if this was done with a purpose or its a limitation of the BF2 engine but, its a small thing that got me killed many times, for example, in a firefight, i press right click to aim at someone but the aiming animation lasts for one second (more or less depends on the weapon) and while the animation lasts i can't fire...would it be possible to enable people to fire WHILE in the animation because, well, you CAN do it in the real world ?

2 -Please for God's sakes, PLEASE if you fix the deviation DO NOT try to compensate by increasing recoil on weapons ESPECIALLY MEC weapons because the recoil on MEC weapons is RIDICULOUSLY big already!

3 - give us fastropes ? :D

4 - I am sure you guys thought about this earlier but i forgot the reason why its not there (bf2 engine limitation?) , the leaning option, for the corners and such, makes clearing out buildings a lot better than it already is...

5 -Weapon pulling out animations : Example: Ak 47 , i pull it out, the guy examines the weapon and then he cocks it (i dont know if this is the right word i don't speak english very well but i hope you know what i mean), which is ok, but then i pull my knife out and my ak 47 after that and he goes and does the same animation again...Wouldnt it be better if the first time i pull it out is the ONLY time he does it unless he has to reload? Before equipping something else (knife, granade...) the weapon should be put on safety and when pulled out again the guy should put safety off again, instead of doing the whole animation....I hope my idea is somewhat understandable...

My understanding is your player doesnt 'cock' the weapon every time he pulls it out he is checking to make sure there is a round in the chamber. The best example to see this is if you select someone with a class with a pump action shotgun, they half-cock it to see if a round is in the chamber and they are gtg.

This is only with a few weapons, and it is still quite stupid. The M4/16 for example definitely cocks everytime you pull it out, also extends stock and removes safety. So pretty much if you want to throw a grenade you're first decocking your rifle, putting it on safe and collapsing the stock.

Yes, I know it's an engine limitation that you can't do it like Call of Duty for example where you only cock and make ready the weapon the first time you equip it. I just needed to rant about it anyways.

When you move the working parts rearward and the forward again, the round gets ejected with most weapons. You are recocking the weapon, so yes the animations are an unrealistic by product of the engine unfortunately. If you're competent on the weapon system you should know what state of readiness the weapon is in.

I also forgot to add something in my previous post...Well its just a simple thing regarding recoil in weapons. Recoil for some weapons is perfect (m16) but recoil for some feels like i am a 12 year old kid shooting it not a trained grown up (G3 in MEC). But my personal opinions aside.

My idea on how to improve some things regarding recoil would be, well, i've seen this in Crysis believe it or not, and it made me think -god this is so right!
Basically, in PR you take your weapon and if you try full auti with an Ak or God forbid G3 and you miss everything, which is somewhat ok, BUT its far away from realism in a sense that, if you fire full auto in the real world, the first 2-3-4 shots will most certanly go off target, but if you keep shooting you will get used to the recoil in a matter of 1-2 second and you will hold and steer the weapon much tighter. I hope you know what i mean even with my crappy english, i hope common sense will give you an idea of what i mean.

I don't know if this system can be implemented in to BF2 engine because of its limitation but i ask those who have an opinion on this to reply with their opinions, negative or positive, so we can help PR devs and share ideas. Thanks :D

Hey guys vote for pr on dbmod. If they win mod of the year, it will generate more players learning about pr which will in turn lead to a larger community. Buying bf2 is very cheap and dling PR and mumble is do-able. So let's keep this mod alive as long as possible.
