Hi all,
I just wanted to say that the current implementation of the name tags (0.4) is excellent. I just had one minor suggestion for you to perhaps consider or even ignore if not possible. I play as a squad leader most times and as such, I have the guys spread out and in as best a formation as possible so that they don't shoot each other in the back and are harder targets. Unfortunately, this spacing between soldiers (with me hiding at the back) means that I cannot see the names of the squad in front of me and this makes VOIP communication a little difficult because I cannot talk to players by name. I can, of course, open the orders map, click on the dot to find out the name of my squadmate on the extreme left flank - but this is a bit fiddly and a continual task when trying to keep everybody working as a unit. I don't want to change the friendly view distance (i.e. same TEAM) from what it currently is, and I certainly don't want to see enemy nametags, only my immediate SQUAD's nametag view distance. I can manage the way it is now and just wanted to see what other people think. It would just save me a little CTRL bashing and trying to click on green dots to find out names. I am not sure if there are separate view distance settings for squads or only friendly and enemy. If so, my suggestion is moot. Once again, well done with 0.4, your hard work and passion is recognised, appreciated and applauded. Cheers B |

Yes i aggree,
I real life you can turn your head look at them, you will know their names you have hear full 360 degrees and also if they dont listed they get shot or booted out of the army. But lets face it no matter what you do you cannot kepp every squad in order, see then all the time keep as a formation and happy at the same time on a game. so i think that the name tag display JUST on your squad members and squad leaders should be like vanila BF2 Yes you heard me vanila. thanks ukarmycadet (p.s dont kill me) |

Maybe instead of dots in minimap it shoud be small number showing a squad mate. That will be geaving when you join a squad.

I doubt it is possible to change the view distance for just squad members, but it would be a nice incentive to be in a squad. My squad leader was asking for a pickup the other day, when I swooped in to pick him up......it was the wrong guy, and I was on the wrong end of a very nasty missle

I hear what you're saying WRT vanilla.
To further clarify my original suggestion, I was thinking more along the lines of increasing the visible tag distance for squadmates for only 20m or so. Not the whole map. What I am trying to get at is, if I can physically see a squad mate (within a reasonable distance) it really helps to be able to read their name and be able to talk to them directly. Sure, if the player is "over the hill and far away" I would definitely prefer not to see their name tag (just like regular friendlies and of course enemies) - as in this case you can refer to the command map or the main map. In this case, the squad member has either spawned at the wrong place, has gone for a vehicle or is not really playing in the squad - either way, the need to communicate with them accurately is not that time critical. Clearly the current nametag setup is GREAT with respect to non-squad friendlies and enemies, but a slight tweak may help out the team work as it speeds up specific, direct communication. Anyway, the current system is great - perhaps I am the only one who talks to their squad by name and is therefore my burden. (Woe is me.) |

How about squal members can see just the SL regardless and the SL can see all squad members.
