Nice to see your in a good mood, nice to talk to you again eggman. Do you not get the general question with a hint of haha in my sentence?
They seem to lack the power they used to. |

Let me make myself clear, Reason tracers are used Quite often and mostly at night operations is when you are using Iron Sites you can not see where your rounds are landing, If you are trying to adjust you fire on a target several hundred meters from you then you need to be able to see your rounds. Tracers provide this. Now they may not be nearly as bright during the day, they are still effective in providing visual determination of where your rounds are going. I can't speak for the British or other military organizations but we did use Tracer rounds in the USMC that is United States Marine Corps and I have to say PR is representing this very respectfully.

The tracers used when i was in CF reserves was the subdued variant, where they dont come out of the gun glowing but show up about 50 meters out. This was just on a range but was explained so that enemy cannot follow back your tracer to the shooter.
Thanx for info dedmon on USMC dedmon |

habo: what dedmon is saying is USMC use the non-subdue variant, and in day & night ops...
I dont know about the other factions, I assume though insurgents would NOT have access to many tracer rounds. |

-Tracers are used during nighttime operations(Though they generally are not if night vision equipment is extensively used) and they're actually very bright even in daylight but there are several impracticalities that dissuade extensive use of them on the battlefield. 1) You have to reload your mags and dealing with several types of ammo and especially placing them in some order is time-consuming and inefficient, therefore only prepared ammo contains tracers(MG belts, maybe the first mags). 2) Tracers burn and extensive use of them leads to fires which counters the collateral damage policy as well as often proving a negative event for the operations themselves(Cover burns down, areas might become unpassable, etc.) 3) NATO rules specify that people shouldn't die with a burning round in their body, therefore any extensive use of them is prohibited, it's the same reason why flamethrowers were banned.
-Tracers are often used when training because it helps you see how a bullet acts and to judge distances, etc. In a combat situation you implement what you have learned, generally without tracers. If you don't know where your round is hitting then you should have paid more attention when they taught you how to adjust your sights. Tracers actually diverge at ranges over 90m and so are unreliable as aim indicators and can only give a general direction, this is why they are only used in large scale for non-guided AA weapons. -And using tracers to indicate when your mag is low on ammo is counter-productive as it tells the enemy when you have to reload, therefore it is not implemented. Tracers are used to show the general direction from which the enemy is coming/is situated and primarily for MGs. Using tracers in a training environment is very different from using them in a combat environment and they are rarely used extensively for the reasons I've stated above. -Now, I'm neutral when it comes to tracers in PRMM as I have yet to try it but since realism is the main objective I would assume that the most realistic approach was the most favourable? |
