The last 5 is not possible in the engine...I like the tracers alot, makes it more intense. Should prolly go 5 for riflemen and 3 for LMG's.

I really get a kick out of those who have no Military experience and apparently no military knowledge. Tracers come in all shapes and sizes I used them all the time when shooting my m16 in the USMC. They are not just given to squad leaders or machine guns. They are used all the time. please do not speak like you know what you are talking about. In the marines we would stack them either every 3rd round or 5th. depending on known conditions we would be fighting in.

They still look like big fat laser beams.

But I must admit, that seeing the tracers on the blackhawk does look like it's firing a laser beam at the ground. Perhaps the tracer bullets need to be reduced in frequency.
I can't remember where but go look for a pintle mounted door minigun video from a helicpter filmed at night... it looks just like laserbeams...

er.. yeah Gents it's a pretty simple problem... we beefed up the tracers to make them more visible.

The intent was to create a "watch my fire" sort of spotting mechanism (as well as add in some realism around use of tracer rounds).

But then we added some stuff to make the colours more defined. but we should have tweaked the tracer properties back down again because once we defined the colors more strongly, they didn't need the beefing up we gave them when the color was very neutral.

an easy fix for a patch in the near future.

Cheers!

Not quite, riflemen do use tracers to alert them not only where their rounds are going, but also at the bottom of their mags to know when they are out of ammo in the mag.

Hahaha. Anyone here actually fired the following: m249, m240B, m60, m60e3, m4a1, m16a2/a4, etc. In both day and night conditions with NVG? No, YouTube and Militaryphotos.net does NOT count.

...............

OK.

I love the tracers. I love this mod.

My experience has been usually every 5th round is a tracer on LMGs. True, daytime with rifles don't really need tracers, but low-vis or night situations it helps. I've known gunners who load up BH's with full tracers. Starwars has nothing on that. It's hell on earth.

I think I'm happy with eggman's solution of dimming the tracers a bit in a future realease. Usually muzzle flashes and tracers are harder to see in the daytime.

If you don't like tracers giving away your position you might try one or more of the following:

a.) Don't stay in one position for very long
b.) Turn your fire selector switch from "full" to "semi"
c.) Make it a headshot everytime

-Lets see: MP5, AG3, C8, G36, .50 cal MG, M95(I think it was) Barrett, MG3. I've used these often in military service(Except G36 and C and alot of other weapons ranging from mines to RPGs. The only time I've used tracers was when I was using a .50 cal MG mounted on a 113 APC. Once in a while you use tracers when it's dark but not very often, MGs use them all the time. One of the reasons is because the ammo belts are prepared in advance and you can then put tracers in there, when it comes to other weapons you really shouldn't be taking the time to put a tracer in for every fifth round. You have a few mags prepared(4-6) but you have to reload the mags after you've spent them all so tracers aren't really high up on the priority list. And as I said, NATO prohibits large-scale use of tracers in combat operations(The US often disregards these rules).

Is a standard assault rifle considered a long barrel weapon? I would have thought that long barrel weapons would include only light machine guns and anything stronger than them, as they are the only things that need them (in the case of stationary and portable machine guns, they have them so friendly forces do not run into the fire, while vehicle mounted have them for the purpose of aim). Giving them to regular infantry kills stealth, as if every few rounds a tracer is fired, a squads exact position is given away to the enemy, which is unrealistic. For this reason, no sane military commander would order every single one of his men use tracers. Not to mention, you never see tracers coming out of the M16s when you see videos of troops shooting at Al Qaeda and other hostile groups in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yes, NATO rules are often silly but if you're going for realism then that's the way to go.

EDIT: It takes 25-50m for the tracer to ignite(You know if you've seen the Mythbusters episode).
If NATO rules state that and PR refuses to remove tracers from everything but support weapons (which include vehicles), is it still a reality modification?
