I agree with HABO on realistic use of tracers. I dont think they are used often in rifleman. I really dont. Ive been saying this for a while but not many agree...
I dont know what the best option would be.... on one hand its great for 'follow my shot' targetting, on the other hand it just seems kind of ridiculous. My prefered solution: One in 5 shots from Machine gun is a tracer round. One in 7 shots from rifle is a tracer round. |

haha i love red orchestras tracers... the mg42 is so fun to shoot. you feel like youre honestly putting down suppressing fire when youre sending loads of bullets/tracers around a corner

AFAIK this is partially incorrect. Tracer rounds actually have a hollow base filled with pyrotechnic. The painted tip is for visual identification when loading. "A tracer projectile is constructed with a hollow base filled with a pyrotechnic flare material. In US and NATO standard ammunition this is usually a mixture of strontium salts and a metal fuel such as magnesium perchlorate. This yields a bright red light. Russian and Chinese tracer ammunition generates green light using barium salts." "There are three types of tracers: bright tracer, subdued tracer and dim tracer. The standard tracer starts burning immediately after exiting the muzzle. A disadvantage of bright tracers is that they give away the shooter's location to the enemy—as an old military proverb puts it; tracers work both ways. Bright tracers can also overwhelm night vision devices, rendering them less useful. Subdued tracers burn at full brightness after a hundred or more yards to avoid giving away the gunner's position. Dim tracers burn very dimly but are clearly visible through night-vision equipment." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tracer_ammunition http://www.inetres.com/gp/military/i...56mm_ammo.html | |

-NATO rules state that infantry is not to use tracer rounds, only support weapons can use them. The reason is two-fold; 1) it's burning... 2) collateral damage. If every guy is running around with tracer rounds in dry areas then you'll have a nice fire going within minutes. Yes, NATO rules are often silly but if you're going for realism then that's the way to go.
EDIT: It takes 25-50m for the tracer to ignite(You know if you've seen the Mythbusters episode). |

I don't know about tracers, but i think BH looks like a laser beam while shooting IRL. And probably infantryman shouldn't have tracers at all, maybe just bright ones, not for the purpose tracers are meant to, but just to look cool.
Here's a couple of videos originally found in ArmA tracer thread at BI forums. .308, damn sweet AR-15 Mounted M240 Notice the last one, they look exactly the same as those in Red Orchestra E: If only possible, I think PR should scale down infantry fighting by reducing muzzle velocities. It wouldn't harm gameplay or even realism if assault rifles would shoot only 500m/s instead of 900. They would still be perfectly accurate, bullet drop would be higher of course, but now there's hardly any anyway... And tracers would look much better. |

Yea I agree with the original poster of this thread... I feel like there are lasers flying all over the place. Id rather see them limited to machine guns.

I like the idea of tracers being in the last 5 bullets... although it would be a give away to the enemy team that the other teams low on ammo? Maybe just make 1 tracer per 10 bullets or somthing + at your fifth.

IMO I think the adding of tracers has pushed the mod quite a bit away from what made it so great and towards something like POE which for the fact of the matter has done tracers bar none better.
Seeing all the flying colors has really dampened the feel of the game. |
