I know the M16A2 uses M196 tracers but that is just for training. I haven't heard of anyone using them in real life in their rifles. I for one would never load my rifle with any type of tracer ammunition in combat. At least make it optional. Support weapons should still have them, and definitely get rid of them for snipers... That is just silly.

If possible make it so that you can choose your ammo. Don't know if it's possible so that you choose the type of ammo (tracers or no tracers) when picking up the kit, or then just make it so that ½ of the mags have tracers and ½ don't. And of course you need to be able to choose which ones you want to use. The thing with this is that we would probably run out of the ammo we want to use after a while. Or then we just have to get more mags.

Or then we could just remove the tracers from all weapons except the mgs.

It's really very simple - if it is not a light machine gun or a mounted weapon it does not get tracers. Just like reality. Everyone is happy.
