I heard that too but theres not really gunna fully replace anyone, because ur missing out on human intuition and just certain things that are unpredictablethat a machine couldn't be programmed to react quick enough to respond. So i doubt that they will ever be able to take over the AF

My money on a human piloting a fighter vs. a fighter built around a computer would be on the silicon. Less problems with Gs mean tighter turns which leads to the computer getting behind the human.

Of course if it was a remotely piloted drone, they might be more likely to risk bringing it home, rather than thinking of their own safety and ejecting. I'm sure our resident fighter-ace will discuss this with y-all

With drones, you don't have the sense of wether something is a target or not.
Example, intelligence says their is a insurgent weapons cache located at location X. Human pilot goes out there and realizes that there is a wedding going on at location X and aborts. A drone wouldn't differentiate and it would follow out its order, causing massive colleteral damage. They're good where parameters for unknowns are limited, but UAVs have problems in a fluid situation. The trickle-down of information can be too slow to take advantage of rapidly changing events. And with Gecko1969 saying that drones can out fight human pilots, that is wrong, drones are still far off from dogfighting, but let me tell you something. During the Korean war, the maximum amount of Gs a human pilot could be expected to handle was around 5+, now human pilots can handle 8+. As technology is increased and the standard is raised, so too will the pilots. A counter-point could be made saying that drones erase the need for pilots to risk their lives. If that day ever comes, then war will turn into nothing but a video game, and countrys would be declaring war far more easily, as there is no risk to them. |

I agree wholeheartedly with you on a human's ability to make clutch decisions better than a drone, but if someone is setting up to bomb a target (probably from thousands of feet in the air, right?) would they realistically be able to see the bride and groom tying the knot?
While I think it is a bad idea as of right now to replace human airedales with drones, I think the best way is to use them together. Drone goes in ahead of human pilot to scope the target, ensuring there is no wedding/party/field trip of school children, so that the human is safe to bomb away. But if it is just bombing, then two drones could do the same. Where humans have the advantage is in situations where they are being fired at and therefore can react to that. |
