Hello guys,
I was wondering if the following addition would be too much work for the people involved: Instead of having one large list of "Clans" why don't we introduce a little classification, mainly by size. Meaning, any group that has 10 or less members, will be referred to as a "PR Squad". With 11-29 members a group is called a "PR Platoon" and from 30+ members it is a "PR Clan" or "PR Team". Each group would have its own Stickied thread with the contact info. This would make it easier to find fitting adversaries for matches. For example, the GCA could simply skip all the smaller clans when looking for larger maps. Initial classification would be based on data from the group members itself. If a unit wants to move up, they would have to fight at least one match against another recognized unit, showing that they can field the appropriate number of active members. Screenshots of scorescreen during game or of final scorescreen if less than 20 players involved needed. Downgrading would occur either by a unit reporting that they have lost active members, or if they fail three times in succession to field a sufficiently large team against another recognized unit. With recognized, I mean a group that is listed in this sub-forum. |

Yes this would benefit larger clans as it makes them sound bigger and better. But a group with 10 or less members is still a clan and so is a group with 11-29 members. To be honest i think you're just thinking of yourselves here. I mean it's pretty obvious which clans have 30+ members- the only clans GCA are interested in so just hit them up on xfire.
Your proposal also favours larger clans in the recruiting process as you would be the only guys who people will take seriously as according to this suggestion you are the only "proper" clans. and i know plenty of great small clans out there. As for the scrim thing then you just need to sign up for the new PRL website and ther is a 32vs32 ladder where you and the other 32vs32 clans can arrange matches. So to be honest as you can probably tell from my tone im not exactly in favour of this one. Plus we'd have to rename this forum PR Clans, Teams, Platoons, squads, leagues and ladders. A mouthful for anyone |

Salah ad Din, please take a look around and tell me what do you see, a computer game forum or military barracks? IMHO, you're taking it too seriously... really
...and if you have problems with finding adversaries then maybe you should bump threads like this one http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f75-...ve-2009-a.html more often |

DEVs are pretty occupied like 24/7. It's hard for them to Make Project Reality and work with the community at the same time while doing real life.
Personally I like the idea. but maybe the R-PUBs may have a purpose now? |

I am the one that generally handles the Clan section of the forums.
I agree with the post under the OP. A clan is a clan. Right now, I am going to waste a good week of my time looking for which of those clans are still active, or which of those clans even exist. Infact, I think I might just remove that thread, and make a new one, asking that all current clan leaders post information, as now that I look back at it, that would be easier than wasting a week |

Eddie, that sounds ok, too.
Maybe include into the Clan data a "Last Updated" date and "Active Clan Size"? |

Again i disagree with that. Ther is no reason to put the clan numbers in this thread. If you want to arrange a scrim then you can use the PRL- which would be the only reason for putting numbers in this page. This idea just favours larger clans as any new recruits will just look at the clan sizes and think because they have more members then they are a better clan- and i know that this isnt the case.
It will also encourage clans to keep ther inactive members as if they have more then it will be easier to recruit in most cases. For example if this was the case then i wouldnt have kicked out 13 inactive members in the past month i would have kept them so that the clan looked bigger. I think that the PR clans ladders etc forum is fine although resetting the contact info is definitely a good idea as i keep looking at clans and they no longer exist. Maybe you could have a way of registering a clan with PR and then you put the contact details up. This would mean that occurances like this would be less likely, with inactive clans just leaving themselves on the list. I always find that it's hard to find out who leads what clan. So maybe if you are the leader in a clan that has been registered then you should put you do lead that clan so that people know who to go to. Although im not sure how workable this idea is. |

Now for the reason of argument, I would like to propose the defense for Salah. His theory was potentially making community wide intelligence operation, thus making freedom of the information more available. This would empower the small guy to take a look at all perspectives of clans. Now labels or not, smaller clans shouldn't be afraid because their numbers are listed, for this point; if a new pr gamer is looking for a clan and he happens to choose a larger clan because its bigger therefore he thinks it is better doesn't really deserve to be in the tight knit clans that are smaller.
Clans have been around the early years of any gaming community, and just for the sake of arguing, they seem to be overlooked and favoritism seems to be rampant among community members in PR. So in all cases clans deserve ungiven respect, since these clan members are 'among' the most addicted gamers to PR or any mod at that matter (this is why clans are formulated so teams could bind under one flag to play in a game). So rating and acknowledging presence of these clans by putting in effort on their behalf would be almost demanded. (We also need to consider 70 percent of the server's in PR is owned by Clans). I'm not stating that we end what we are currently doing, but improve what is here to the fullest extent by becoming more involved with the clanning community of PR. -The Guru |
