Hi everyone.

TCombat.com enjoys giving the best experience to gamers who play on our servers, and would like to know your opinions on aspects of the main server.

Please include things like:

What do you like?
What do you dislike?
What would you change if you had the chance?
How do you perceive the TCC members?
How do you perceive the Public players who join TCombat.com?
And any other comments you would like to relay to us.

We are listening and the server will benifit from your input.

Thank you

Like: the infantry maps. Kashan's not as played like on other servers.
Dislike: the rampant teamswitching. Last night, Sunset City, I was PLA and everyone switched over to USMC. This left 17-25.
TCC members: friendly, skilled players. Had a good commander last night a few rounds in a row, CanadianTO.
Pubbers: since PR's a closer community than vanilla, you find a lot of regulars from other servers. Good squad play. Had a troublemaker on last night however: The Battle Arena He TKed a DEV on the BA, then I see him on the TCC server taunting the enemy on Mestia.

Thanks for accepting input.

Re: TCombat.com suggestion box.

The perfect server:
  1. Consistently Populated
Populated servers attract more population; empty servers remain empty. Keeping a server populated is difficult, and depends on three things:
    • "Seeding the server; keeping clanmates playing on the server even when it's empty.
    • Following rules 1-6.
    • Gaining a reputation for following rules 1-6.

  2. Server Location
For servers located within the U.S., a mid-west server location is usually best. It provides low pings for everyone, where as east-coast or west-coast servers only provide low pings for those near that area. For example, most east-coast servers give west-coast players a ping of 100ms or more which is playable, but no match for the guy with 15-25ms. A centrally-located server is generally best.

  3. Quality Admins
Admins must be present throughout the day and evening, or at least be reachable through xfire, teamspeak, or some other means of communication. In addition, those admins must be more interested in being an admin than being a player... too many admins ignore requests or don't properly investigate disruptions because they're too busy playing.

  4. Map Selection/Rotation
Nothing kills a server more than poor map selection, and poor rotation. As for selection, this means leaving out maps like Qinling, Oman, Daqing, Zatar, and all insurgency maps (insurgency maps attract a different kind of PR player and these maps already exist on 24/7 servers. If people want to play insurgency, they can go there).

Map rotation is also vitally important, and many servers make the mistake of running too many desert maps, forest maps, or tank/infantry maps one after the other, making each subsequent map feel like desert part1, part2, part3, etc. Mix it up. Desert/tank maps are best followed by infantry/jungle maps and vice versa. For example:
    • Kashan (desert/armor)
    • Al Kufrah (desert/armor)
    • Jabal (desert/armor/inf)
    • Quai (Forest/armor/inf)
    • Fool's Road (Forest/armor/inf)
    • OGT (Forest/inf)

Would be much better played as:
    • Kashan (desert/armor)
    • OGT (Forest/inf)
    • Jabal (desert/armor/inf)
    • Fool's Road (Forest/armor/inf)
    • Al Kufrah (desert/armor)
    • Quai (Forest/armor/inf)

  5. Proper Smart-Balance Options
If done incorrectly, this can really turn away good players who are annoyed with lopsided teams or worse, 1:1 ratio teams where players are auto-teamswitched mid-game and/or cannot switch teams to join their friends/clanmates. Turn auto-balance OFF. Leave "smart-balance" ON (they're two different things) with an allowable player gap of about 4-5 players, meaning that teams will not become locked until there is a 4-5 player deficit on one side or the other. (If you're going to error here, error on the side of too big a gap than too small, otherwise auto-teamswitch is turned on too frequently.

Proper and generous smart-balance settings prevent annoying teamswitch, keeps teams relatively even, but also allows players to switch teams to play with their friends or allow an entire squad to switch to the side with less skill/talent, making things more interesting. It's all about freedom of choice without feeling handcuffed and still keeping the game relatively fair.

QFT!

This is one of the most important features on a server for me... well, that and working VOIP but most PR servers have that sorted

To answer some of your questions:

Quote:
What would you change if you had the chance?
Those annoying server messages. We removed most of the text spam in PR for a reason, were tired seeing all that text on the screen, were playing an immersive tactical FPS here, not a freakin MMO! The advertising spam in your server does NOTHING for you. People will join your server and your clan based on the gameplay on that server, not because of some text spammed at the top of the screen over and over. Would love to see most servers with reduced/removed text spam.

How do you perceive the TCC members?
fun guys with a love for tactical gaming, basically ideal players for PR! have not have any negative experiences with TCC members yet!

Well basically the PR community is prety close knit, so public player joining the Tcombat.com server are just as likely to join the tacticalgamer.com server or the tactics&teamwork server. I think you guys run a good server and with a bit more admin coverage, you could be the best of the best

But yea, really read Wolfes reply (minus his comments about insurgency) I think its bang on.

Wolfe-

Some of those desert maps crash quite often and we have created a maplist that does not crash while offering a mixture of good teamwork quality maps. Also the server is in virginia USA for anyone who was wondering
And we currently have autobalance switched off, we had it on for about half a week in april and it bugged us so we changed back.

Fuzzhead-

Thank you for your suggestions, they have all been noted.

please leave a small comment after reading this thread, it helps out a lot

Re: TCombat.com suggestion box.

I love this server!

This is honestly my favorit server, however i loved the 24/7 Op Archer server even more, i do wonder what has happened to that one.

As for you members, all in all you guys a great bunch, and it shows on your server.

Op archer is a great map, but it crashes too often im afraid, and we try to run crash free. Theres arnt many bugs, but there are bugs that are directly influancing gameplay, like the spawn at mosque trapping people, and the likes. Hopefully if in the near future it is cleaned up and reimplimented we can run it, but i dont see it happeneing. i dont know, i just dont have that much info available atm. I think Khara would be a great replacement if it is in 0.8
