[Question] Max # of Statics?
Hello all, I have searched but can't find an answer to this question.
Is there a maximum number of statics one can put on a map before it becomes "unplayable" due to lag, frame rate drop, etc? If so, what is it? Say could you have a very urbanized city, or would the number of buildings make it unplayable? thanks BigDaddyMcFatSacks |

there is no max of normal statics (although performance will for sure decrease with increasing number of statics) but there is a max of 1024 destroyable statics(correct me if im wrong)
also note that lightmapping will take ages if you have lots of lots of statics |

My current WIP map has TONS of statics and I still get 50~60 fps. I have a decent PC, buthonestly, a lot of it depends on lightmap detail and view distance. Sure having a lot of statics will take more resources than fewer statics, but it helps A LOT if you can't SEE a million at a time.
I'd say go with a decent amount, if you run it and it works, try for more if you want more. If it runs too slow? Drop the view distance down some. If its a huge urban map you wont[generally speaking, of course] need a HUGE view distance a most of the time you will have buildings blocking your view anyway. But not too short if you plan on having helo support etc. Hope these answers helped. Marco basically said it all, just figured Id toss in what Ive encountered. |

Hmmm... isn't it 2048 networkables? I always thought it's 2048. Are you sure it's 1024?

That's what I have been told by Rhino and Fuzz, maybe IronTaxi too. And they even prefer less than that as when it gets high it *possibly* leads to more crashing. Better safe than sorry... I was told to get mine down to 500 or so before giving it over to have caches added, etc.
