Scot a good resource for texturing is Game Artist Forums
Register and take part in their speed texturing competition. They post the model and you texture it. You dont have to post your results but its a good way to get some small simple models to work on that can be textured quite quickly. Things like barrels, chests and boxes that have less sheer space to texture than weapons and vehicles, but can still be very highly detailed. |

as Mescaldrav said game-artist.net's speed texturing comp is a great place to start. If you dont have much idea of what to do and work slow - dont despair, just take it easy and finish it in our own phase. The speed texturing comp is a great place to learn texturing because its usually very low poly objects that already have been UV mapped.
